Gamma-amino-beta-hydroxybutyric acid (GABOB) and brain serotonin

Psychopharmacologia, 1963
Gamma-amino-beta-hydroxybutyric acid (GABOB), injected intraperitoneally in rats at the dose of 0.5 g/kg, causes a significant decrease of brain serotonin, and proves different from other anticonvulsant drugs in this respect.

Reversible modification of D-.beta.-hydroxybutyrate dehydrogenase by diamide

Biochemistry, 1984
D-beta-Hydroxybutyrate dehydrogenase is a lipid-requiring enzyme with a specific requirement of lecithin for function. The purified enzyme devoid of lipid (apodehydrogenase) is inactive but can be reactivated by forming a complex with phospholipid containing lecithin.

Postmortem Vitreous Beta‐Hydroxybutyrate: Interpretation in a Forensic Setting*

Journal of Forensic Sciences, 2012
Abstract:  Vitreous beta‐hydroxybutyrate (BHB) was retrospectively analyzed in 1795 forensic cases using the Pointe Scientific method. Comparison of vitreous BHB with vitreous glucose in 1781 of the cases showed moderately good correlation r = 0.731. Comparison with blood alcohol levels in 1561 of the cases showed no correlation r = −0.053.

Beta-hydroxybutyrate transport in rat brain: developmental and dietary modulations

American Journal of Physiology-Legacy Content, 1976
Transport of beta-hydroxybutyrate (betaHB) into rat brain was estimated from the early rise in brain/serum 14C ratio after subcutaneous injection of [14C]betaHB. Permeability of the D isomer exceeded that of the L isomer. Permeability of either isomer rose throughout suckling (sevenfold) and declined after weaning to the low, newborn values.
