Components of beta diversity in hierarchical sampling designs: A new approach [PDF]
Diversity partitioning has been generally used to estimate the contribution of different levels of sampling hierarchy to landscape diversity. However, beta diversity values derived by partitioning strongly depend on focus and sample size and the ...

An attribute‐diversity approach to functional diversity, functional beta diversity, and related (dis)similarity measures [PDF]
AbstractBased on the framework of attribute diversity (a generalization of Hill numbers of order q), we develop a class of functional diversity measures sensitive not only to species abundances but also to trait‐based species‐pairwise functional distances.

Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Extracting meaningful information from community data is among the most challenging tasks of community ecology. Whereas presence-absence data matrices are commonly used in different analytical frameworks, we argue that the conceptual distinction among ...

Alpha, beta and gamma diversity of fished marine taxa along the southwest coast of India during 1970-2005 [PDF]
The data on species-wise marine fish landings at Kerala and Karnataka during 1970-2005 were used to examine diversities of fished taxa through alpha, beta, and gamma diversities which are the fundamental descriptive variables of ecology and ...

Mitochondrial remodeling shapes neural and glial lineage progression by matching metabolic supply with demand. Elevated OXPHOS supports differentiation and myelin formation, while myelin compaction lowers mitochondrial dependence, revealing mitochondria as key drivers of developmental energy adaptation.

A full understanding of the origin and maintenance of β -diversity patterns in a region requires exploring the relationships of both taxonomic and phylogenetic β -diversity (TBD and PBD, respectively), and their respective turnover and nestedness ...

An isoform of 14‐3‐3 protein regulates transbilayer lipid movement at the plasma membrane
Loss of 14‐3‐3ζ in CHO cells confers resistance to exogenous phosphatidylserine (PS) and impairs endocytosis‐independent inward flip‐flop of fluorescent PS at the plasma membrane. RNAi‐mediated knockdown reproduces this defect, while no additive effect is seen in ATP11C‐deficient cells.

Changes in species diversity often result from species losses and gains. The dynamic nature of beta diversity (spatial variation in species composition) that derives from such temporal species turnover, however, has received relatively little attention ...
