2-Descarboxybetanidin, a minor betacyanin from carpobrotus acinaciformis

Phytochemistry, 1970
Abstract The flowers of Carpobrotus acinaciformis have been shown to contain betanin, isobetanin, betanidin, isobetanidin, lampranthin-II and isolampranthin-II. A minor pigment was also isolated and identified as 2-descarboxybetanidin. This is the first report of the natural occurrence of this compound.

A BETACYANINE DECOLORIZING ENZYME FOUND IN RED BEET TISSUE

Journal of Food Science, 1979
ABSTRACT The activity of a betacyanine decolorizing enzyme present in raw beet tissue has been confirmed. The enzyme is postulated to be bound to the inner membrane of the cell wall. Comparison between the rate of betacyanine degradation for solutions containing the crude enzyme extract and solutions of identical pH and temperature ...

Effect of tetraalkylammonium salts on retention of betacyanins and decarboxylated betacyanins in ion-pair reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography

Journal of Chromatography A, 2006
The ability of tetraalkylammonium salts to act as ion-pairing agents for betacyanins and mono- as well as bidecarboxylated betacyanins in HPLC on reversed phase is reported. The results indicate substantial and various influences of tetraalkylammonium salt addition to eluent on magnitude and direction of retention time changes of the analytes.

Diversity in plant red pigments: anthocyanins and betacyanins

Plant Biotechnology Reports, 2013
Plant pigments are of interest for research into questions of basic biology as well as for purposes of applied biology. Red colors in flowers are mainly produced by two types of pigments: anthocyanins and betacyanins. Though anthocyanins are broadly distributed among plants, betacyanins have replaced anthocyanins in the Caryophyllales.
