A stationary phase-specific bacterial green light sensor for enhancing metabolite production [PDF]
Genetically-encoded sensors are used to control protein and metabolite production in bacterial fermentations. However, these sensors are generally optimized for exponential growth rather than stationary phase where production occurs.

Anticancer and Anti-Inflammatory Potential of Betalains: A Systematic Review on Preclinical Studies. [PDF]
Betalains derived from diverse natural sources, including beetroot (Beta vulgaris), Opuntia ficus‐indica, yellow prickly pear, and Atriplex hortensis “rubra” leaf and seed extracts, as well as purified betalains (amaranthin, celosianin, betanin, betaxanthins, and related derivatives), exhibit significant anticancer and anti‐inflammatory activities in ...

Effects of Different Pretreatments With Vacuum Drying on Drying Kinetics, Bioactive Properties and Physicochemical Characterization of Red Beetroot Snacks. [PDF]
Different pretreatments significantly affected the drying kinetics and quality attributes of vacuum‐dried red beetroot snacks. Microwave pretreatment markedly shortened the drying time and enhanced effective moisture diffusivity, while ultrasound pretreatment preserved the highest betalain content.

Nonthermal Concentration of Red Beetroot Juice by Reverse Osmosis and Forward Osmosis. [PDF]
RO and FO were used for nonthermal concentration of red beetroot juice. Single strength juice was concentrated by RO to 17 °Brix, and by FO to 50 °Brix; color and betalain were preserved by both processes. Overall, FO is a promising method for concentrating beetroot juice.

Amino Acid Betaxanthins: Absorption, Fluorescence, And Stability. [PDF]
Betaxanthins are natural pigments responsible for the vivid yellow coloration and intrinsic fluorescence of flowering succulent plants within the order Caryophyllales. Though less extensively studied than other plant pigments classes, betaxanthins hold potential for application as safe food dyes, solar cell absorbers, antioxidants, and genetically ...

The Decisive Step in Betaxanthin Biosynthesis Is a Spontaneous Reaction1 [PDF]
Abstract Experiments were performed to confirm that the aldimine bond formation is a spontaneous reaction, because attempts to find an enzyme catalyzing the last decisive step in betaxanthin biosynthesis, the aldimine formation, failed. Feeding different amino acids to betalain-forming hairy root cultures of yellow beet (Beta vulgaris L.
