Constraining slow-roll inflation with WMAP and 2dF [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
We constrain slow-roll inflationary models using the recent WMAP data combined with data from the VSA, CBI, ACBAR and 2dF experiments. We find the slow-roll parameters to be $0 < \epsilon_1 < 0.032$ and $\epsilon_2 + 5.0 \epsilon_1 = 0.036 \pm 0.025 ...

CAST gene effect on body condition score and some ultrasonographic measurements in Karacabey Merino sheep [PDF]

open access: yesIraqi Journal of Veterinary Sciences
The calpastatin (CAST) gene is one of the candidate genes affecting muscle growth and meat quality. In this study, the effects of the CAST gene on backfat thickness (BFT), lumbar muscle depth (Musculus longissimus thoracis et lumborum-MLD) determined by ...

Genome-wide association study identifying genetic variants associated with carcass backfat thickness, lean percentage and fat percentage in a four-way crossbred pig population using SLAF-seq technology

open access: yesBMC Genomics, 2022
Background Carcass backfat thickness (BFT), carcass lean percentage (CLP) and carcass fat percentage (CFP) are important to the commercial pig industry. Nevertheless, the genetic architecture of BFT, CLP and CFP is still elusive.

Exploring bacterioplankton communities and their temporal dynamics in the rearing water of a biofloc-based shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei) aquaculture system

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2022
Biofloc technology (BFT) has recently gained considerable attention as a sustainable method in shrimp aquaculture. In a successful BFT system, microbial communities are considered a crucial component in their ability to both improve water quality and ...

Relationship between semen quality and meat quality traits in Belgian Piétrain boars [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The main objective of this study was to assess the semen quality of Pietrain boars originating from Belgian AI centers and to correlate these results with their meat quality traits.

Characterization of Adherent Bacteroidales from Intestinal Biopsies of Children and Young Adults with Inflammatory Bowel Disease [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
There is extensive evidence implicating the intestinal microbiota in inflammatory bowel disease [IBD], but no microbial agent has been identified as a sole causative agent.

Detection of enterotoxigenic Bacteroides fragilis in patients with ulcerative colitis

open access: yesGut Pathogens, 2017
Purpose Ulcerative colitis (UC) as a type of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), presumed to occur as a consequence of increased immune responses to intestinal microbiota in genetically susceptible individuals.

The role of the gut microbiota in colorectal cancer causation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Here, we reviewed emerging evidence on the role of the microbial community in colorectal carcinogenesis. A healthy gut microbiota promotes intestinal homeostasis and can exert anti-cancer effects; however, this microbiota also produces a variety of ...

Characterization ofbftGenes among EnterotoxigenicBacteroides fragilisIsolates from Extraintestinal Specimens at a University Hospital in Korea

open access: yesKorean Journal of Clinical Laboratory Science, 2016

Gene co-expression networks associated with carcass traits reveal new pathways for muscle and fat deposition in Nelore cattle

open access: yesBMC Genomics, 2019
Background Positively correlated with carcass weight and animal growth, the ribeye area (REA) and the backfat thickness (BFT) are economic important carcass traits, which impact directly on producer’s payment.
