Recycling of hazelnut waste: Antidiabetic properties of soy lecithin nanoparticles and their in vitro anti‐proliferative effects in tumor cell lines

open access: yesJournal of the Science of Food and Agriculture, EarlyView.
Abstract BACKGROUND Hazelnuts and foods produced using hazelnuts are consumed with pleasure, but it is important to evaluate the waste generated during hazelnut processing and determine their usage methods. RESULTS This study was conducted to determine the changes in bioactive components, bioaccessibility and antidiabetic activity of nanoparticles ...

Valorization of fruit pits from Prunus laurocerasus and Prunus cerasifera as agro‐food byproducts: Bioactive properties and safety assessment for potential food additive applications

open access: yesJournal of the Science of Food and Agriculture, EarlyView.
Abstract BACKGROUND Food additives are widely used to extend the shelf life of foods and maintain their quality. In this study, the potential of Prunus laurocerasus and Prunus cerasifera fruit pits (endocarp and seed) as food additives was investigated in terms of cytotoxicity, antigenotoxicity, antioxidant activity, enzymatic anti‐browning, and urease

The Einstein Relation on Metric Measure Spaces

open access: yes, 2019
This note is based on F. Burghart's master thesis at Stuttgart university from July 2018, supervised by Prof. Freiberg. We review the Einstein relation, which connects the Hausdorff, local walk and spectral dimensions on a space, in the abstract ...

Impact of Heated Versus Unheated Cooking Oil on Postprandial Vascular Function and Metabolism

open access: yesLipids, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The impact of repeated heating of seed‐based culinary oils on cardiometabolic health has not been well established. Heating oils to high temperatures (> 150°C) causes lipid peroxidation, thus generating potentially harmful compounds that may impair vascular function. This randomized, single‐blind, crossover study investigated the acute effects

Thermal decomposition characteristics of BHT and its peroxide (BHTOOH)

open access: yesBMC Chemistry
2,6-Di-tert-butyl-4-methylphenol (BHT) is an excellent antioxidant that is easily oxidized to 2,6-di-tert-butyl-4-hydroperoxyl-4-methyl-2,5-cyclohexadienone (BHTOOH).

FRET‐Based Investigation of the Dynamics of Peptide‐Folded Single Chain Nanoparticles Inside Cancer Cells

open access: yesMacromolecular Rapid Communications, EarlyView.
Little is known about the cellular uptake of single chain nanoparticles that are cross‐linked with dynamic bonds. Using Förster resonance energy transfer and fluorescence lifetime imaging microscopy (FRET‐FLIM) the dynamic nature of the bonds is seen, in which the interaction between two peptides, disassemble quickly, relatively.

Pretreatment Effects of Conventional and Reactive Extrusion on LLDPE Waste Pyrolysis

open access: yesPolymer Engineering &Science, EarlyView.
Schematic overview of the pyrolysis study using original and pretreated LLDPE waste samples. Pretreatment was performed via twin‐screw extrusion at 450°C: without additives (REX), with peroxide (REX‐RO2), or with polypropylene (REX–PP). All four samples underwent pyrolysis at 450°C–475°C for 15–45 min.

Hypertree posets and hooked partitions

open access: yes, 2014
We adapt here the computation of characters on incidence Hopf algebras introduced by W. Schmitt in the 1990s to a family mixing bounded and unbounded posets. We then apply our results to the family of hypertree posets and partition posets.

Visible‐light‐promoted catalyst‐free benzylic C‐H oxidation using molecular oxygen as a green oxidant

open access: yesSmart Molecules, EarlyView.
A green and simple photo‐oxygenation of benzylic C‐H bond with molecular oxygen was developed for the preparation of a series of carbonyl compounds. The straightforward C‐H carbonylation strategy features catalyst‐ and additive‐free reaction conditions, only oxygen as a green oxidant, broad scope and scalable, and the simple‐operation nature.
