Assessment of Bicarbonate Deficiency in Feline Acute and Chronic Kidney Disease [PDF]
Bicarbonate deficiency is a common complication of acute kidney injury (AKI) and chronic kidney disease (CKD), resulting from impaired renal bicarbonate handling. It promotes bone demineralization and calcium–phosphate (CaxP) imbalance. In dogs, elevated

The sodium-bicarbonate cotransporter (NBCe1) has three primary variants: NBCe1-A, -B and -C. NBCe1-A is expressed in renal proximal tubules in the cortical labyrinth, where it is essential for reclaiming filtered bicarbonate, such that NBCe1-A knockout ...

Alkalinity modulates a unique suite of genes to recalibrate growth and pH homeostasis
Alkaline soils pose a conglomerate of constraints to plants, restricting the growth and fitness of non-adapted species in habitats with low active proton concentrations.

Cigarette Smoke Extract Produces Superoxide in Aqueous Media by Reacting with Bicarbonate
The toxicity of cigarette smoke (CS) is largely attributed to its ability to generate reactive oxygen species (ROS). Reportedly, CS generates superoxide in cell culture systems by stimulating the cells to produce superoxide and through direct chemical ...

Exhausted Capacity of Bicarbonate Buffer in Renal Failure Diagnosed Using Point of Care Analyzer
Background: Metabolic acidosis in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a common complication. A bicarbonate concentration in venous blood (V-HCO3−) is a key index for diagnosis and treatment initiation.

CO2/HCO3− Accelerates Iron Reduction through Phenolic Compounds
Iron is a vital mineral for almost all living organisms and has a pivotal role in central metabolism. Despite its great abundance on earth, the accessibility for microorganisms is often limited, because poorly soluble ferric iron (Fe3+) is the ...

Renal bicarbonate reabsorption during bicarbonate loading
To examine bicarbonate reabsorption at different GFR's, we varied the renal perfusion pressure in anesthetized dogs after inhibiting autoregulation by expanding extracellular volume and infusing ethacrynic acid. At a plasma bicarbonate concentration (PHCO3) of 28 +/- 1 mM, bicarbonate reabsorption varied in proportion to GFR (glomerulotubular balance).
