Using QCM‐D for Real‐Time Analysis of Cell Adhesion Dynamics at Biointerfaces
This study explores adhesion of human fibroblasts to functionalized biomaterial surfaces. Quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation (QCM‐D) is used to measure cell responses in real time. The QCM‐D signalis correlated with changes in cell morphology and focal adhesion kinase (FAK) activation. This data shows a positive correlation between the energy

Filtered bicarbonate and plasma pH as determinants of renal bicarbonate reabsorption
To examine if bicarbonate reabsorption varies with filtered bicarbonate and plasma pH, we infused anesthetized dogs i.v. with sodium chloride and sodium bicarbonate to alter plasma bicarbonate concentration (PHCO3) without changing hematocrit. Examinations in five dogs over a wide range of glomerular filtration rates (GFR) during ethacrynic acid ...

The Case for a Hot Archean Climate and its Implications to the History of the Biosphere [PDF]
The case for a much warmer climate on the early Earth than now is presented. The oxygen isotope record in sedimentary chert and the compelling case for a near constant isotopic oxygen composition of seawater over geologic time support thermophilic surface temperatures prevailing in the Archean, with some support for hot conditions lasting until about 1.
