Genetic evidence for inter-oceanic subdivision of bigeye tuna ( Thunnus obesus ) populations

open access: yesMarine Biology, 1998
Bigeye tuna (Thunnus obesus Lowe, 1839) are a commercially important species of tuna found in the Atlantic, Indian, and Pacific oceans. To initiate an analysis of bigeye tuna population-structure, three PCR–RFLP assays were developed based on the published mtDNA control-region sequences of four bigeye tuna.

Predicting Interactions between Common Dolphins and the Pole-and-Line Tuna Fishery in the Azores.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2016
Common dolphins (Delphinus delphis) are responsible for the large majority of interactions with the pole-and-line tuna fishery in the Azores but the underlying drivers remain poorly understood.

Bigeye Tuna Optimization Algorithm

open access: yes
To address the shortcomings of traditional swarm intelligence optimization algorithms in high-dimensional complex spaces, such as insufficient information representation, dimensional convergence imbalance, premature convergence, and search path oscillation, this paper proposes a novel swarm intelligence optimization method—the Bigeye Tuna Optimization ...

Genomic differentiation and interoceanic population structure of two large pelagic scombrid species

open access: yesGlobal Ecology and Conservation
Tunas of the family Scombridae are of paramount importance for fisheries and the international seafood trade. In order to ensure a sustainable use of these valuable resources, it is crucial that stock delineation and management plans are in accordance ...

Catch-effort relationship in Pacific bigeye tuna fishery [PDF]

open access: yesNaga, 1992
Some problems associated with fitting surplus production models to unsuitable data are discussed. This is illustrated by an application of the Schaefer, Fox and PRODFIT models to Pacific Ocean bigeye tuna (Thunnus obesus ) catch and effort data for 1952-1987, which appear to be better described by purely empirical models.

Effects of release factors affecting the recovery rates of tagged tunas : application to bigeye tuna

open access: yes, 2008
The tagging data base compiled since the 1960s by the secretariat of ICCAT was used to assess the effects of several release factors on the recovery rate of bigeye tuna (Thunnus obesus). The release factors considered were the length of the fish, the latitude, the longitude, the gear used during the tagging operation, the kind of tag used, the year and
