Assessing the effect of statins in lowering the risk of stroke and preventing cerebral ischemia in patients with hypercholesterolemia [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Numerous analyses have explored the role of statins in reducing stroke incidence, reducing cerebral ischemia in hypercholesterolemic patients, and preventing ischemic stroke.

Antibiotic Sensitivity of Vibrio spp. and Shewanella algae Isolated From Brood and Egg of Mud Crab Hatchery

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
Vibrio alginolyticus NBRC 15630, Vibrio parahaemolyticus ATCC 17802, Shewanella algae DW01, and Shewanella algae ATCC 51192 bacterial strains were found in the Mud crab brood and egg samples. All isolates were found to be sensitive to cefotaxime, chloramphenicol, gentamicin, and nitrofurantoin antibiotics.

Analysis of metabolic profiles of bile acids in urine using a lipophilic anion exchanger and computerized gas-liquid chromatorgaphy-mass spectrometry

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 1977
A method is described for quantitative analysis of bile acids in urine. Urine is acidified and bile acids are extracted on an Amberlite XAD-2 column.

Effect of Bile, Sodium Salts of Bile Acids, and Unsaturated Fatty Acids on Bacteriophagic Action.

open access: yesExperimental Biology and Medicine, 1927
Previous investigators record different observations on the effect of bile on bacteriophagic action. Hauduroy,1 Jong and Hauduroy,2 and d'Herelle3 found that bile was decidedly inhibitory, whereas Caublot,4 in observations extending over a period of two years, obtained no evidence of an inhibitory action of bile on bacteriophage. In the studies ...

Bile salt hydrolases: Gatekeepers of bile acid metabolism and host-microbiome crosstalk in the gastrointestinal tract

open access: yesPLOS Pathogens, 2019
Research on bile acids has increased dramatically due to recent studies demonstrating their ability to significantly impact the host, microbiome, and various disease states [1–3]. Although these liver-synthesized molecules assist in the absorption and digestion of dietary fat in the intestine, their reabsorption and recirculation also gives them access

Dual Functions of Dietary Rubber Seed Oil Supplementation: Enriching N‐3 Polyunsaturated Fatty Acids and Enhancing Antioxidant Capacity in Pekin Ducks

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
Dietary RSO supplementation improved growth performance, simultaneously enriched n‐3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (n‐3 PUFA), and enhanced antioxidant capacity in Pekin ducks, which suggested that RSO has the potential to be a novel n‐3 PUFA source and an antioxidant for Pekin ducks to generate animal functional foods.

Bile salts of the West Indian manatee, Trichechus manatus latirostris: novel bile alcohol sulfates and absence of bile acids.

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 1988
The bile salts present in gallbladder bile of the West Indian manatee, Trichechus manatus latirostris, an herbivorous marine mammal of the tropical and subtropical margins of the Atlantic Ocean, were found to consist of a mixture of bile alcohol sulfates.
