Metyrapone, an inhibitor of cytochrome oxidases, does not affect viability in a neuroblastoma cell model of bilirubin toxicity

open access: yesMolecular Genetics and Metabolism Reports, 2014
Background: Unconjugated hyperbilirubinemia may cause brain damage in infants, and globally remains a source of neonatal morbidity and mortality.

Dietary Probiotics Improve Growth, Immunity and Disease Resistance in Fish Against Aeromonas hydrophila Infection

open access: yesAquaculture, Fish and Fisheries, Volume 6, Issue 2, April 2026.
Probiotics offer a promising alternative to antibiotics for managing Aeromonas hydrophila infections in aquaculture. Dietary supplementation of probiotics increases fish health, growth performance, and immune responses, while reducing antibiotic reliance in fish farming.

A Narrative Review of Antioxidant, Anti‐Inflammatory, Anti‐Apoptotic, Immunomodulatory, and Anticancer Properties of Rosa damascena Mill.

open access: yesFood Science &Nutrition, Volume 14, Issue 4, April 2026.
Rosa damascena Mill. exhibits a broad spectrum of pharmacological activities mediated by its rich phytochemical profile. The plant enhances antioxidant defenses by increasing endogenous enzymes (CAT, SOD, GSH, GST, GPx, FRAP) and reducing oxidative stress markers (MDA, MPO).

Assessing electron transfer reactions and catalysis in multicopper oxidases with operando X-ray absorption spectroscopy

open access: yesNature Communications, 2020
Here we propose an experimental setup based on operando X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) to understand why copper-containing oxidoreductase enzymes show exceptional performance as catalysts for the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR).

Electrochemical Studies on the Response to Glucose in the Presence of Bilirubin, Creatinine and Uric Acid at Nafion/Pd-GOx Modified Screen Printed Carbon Electrode

open access: yesInternational Journal of Electrochemical Science, 2015
In the present work, a glucose sensor was developed based on the glucose oxidase immobilized on Pd (Pd-GOx) and nafion modified electrode. The modified electrode was characterized by atomic force microscopy and field emission scanning electron microcopy.

Semicarbazide-sensitive amine oxidase activity levels in patients with acute lymphoblastic leukemia after cytotoxic chemotherapy

open access: yesBeni-Suef University Journal of Basic and Applied Sciences, 2018
Background: The role of Semicarbazide-sensitive amine oxidase (SSAO) in carcinogenesis is unknown; however, due to its function it may be involved in tumorigenesis via production of reactive aldehydes and hydrogen peroxide.

Redox potentials of the blue copper sites of bilirubin oxidases

open access: yesBiochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Bioenergetics, 2006
The redox potentials of the multicopper redox enzyme bilirubin oxidase (BOD) from two organisms were determined by mediated and direct spectroelectrochemistry. The potential of the T1 site of BOD from the fungus Myrothecium verrucaria was close to 670 mV, whereas that from Trachyderma tsunodae was >650 mV vs. NHE.

Cigarette smoke extract upregulates heme oxygenase-1 via PKC/NADPH oxidase/ROS/PDGFR/PI3K/Akt pathway in mouse brain endothelial cells

open access: yesJournal of Neuroinflammation, 2011
Background In the brain, the inducible form of heme oxygenase (HO-1) has been recently demonstrated to exacerbate early brain injury produced by intracerebral hemorrhagic stroke which incident rate has been correlated with cigarette smoking previously ...
