Biliverdin in Biological Systems
1984Green pigments were first recognized early in the nineteenth century in canine placenta [1], avian eggshells [2], and in frog’s blood serum after liver extirpation [3]. Its chemical structure remained uncertain until 1932 when Lemberg [4, 5] confirmed its identity as the bilatriene, biliverdin (BV).
