Progesterone bioconversion by microalgal cultures

Phytochemistry, 1994
Ten different strains of unicellular microalgae have been used in the bioconversion of progesterone. Regio and stereoselective reduction and hydroxylation of the title compound were induced. A 9,10-seco derivative was obtained in high yield by using Scenedesmus quadricauda.

Bioconversions of ergot alkaloids

1991
Ergot alkaloids are very important pharmaceutical substances with wide medical use. Their bioproduction is usually followed by chemical modification. Bioconversions of ergot alkaloids on an industrial scale have become more important in recent years.

BIOAVAILABILITY AND BIOCONVERSION OF CAROTENOIDS

Annual Review of Nutrition, 1998
▪ Abstract  Factors that influence the bioavailability of carotenoids and their bioconversion to retinol are species of carotenoids, molecular linkage, amount of carotenoids consumed in a meal, matrix in which the carotenoid is incorporated, effectors of absorption and bioconversion, nutrient status of the host, genetic factors, host-related factors ...

Hemicellulose bioconversion to polyanionic heteropolysaccharides

Applied Biochemistry and Biotechnology, 1992
Anionic polysaccharides, traditionally obtained from plant or algal sources, have a variety of commercial uses. Such gums from microorganisms have received increased recent interest. We have initiated a program to investigate the bioconversion of pentosans to rheologically useful anionic extracellular polysaccharides (AEPS).

Fuels via bioconversion

Energy Conversion, 1977
Abstract The potential mechanisms for fuels production by biochemical means are reviewed within the context of the principal metabolic pathways. Engineering options for bioconversion of fuels include the direct use of photosynthetic materials, the photosynthetic production of hydrogen and the fermentation of organic matter.

Bioconversion of Hemicelluloses

2018
Hemicellulose comprises about 25–30% of the lignocellulosic biomass and is the second most abundant polysaccharide after cellulose. These are heterogeneous polymer of pentoses hexoses and sugar acids. Xylans is the major component of hemicellulose and are heteropolysaccharides with homopolymeric backbone chains of 1,4 linked β-d-xylopyranose units.
