Bioenergy Cropping Reduces the Spatiotemporal Scaling of Soil Bacterial Biodiversity

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Consistent with patterns observed in plant and animal communities, soil bacterial communities exhibit significant species–time–area and phylogenetic–time–area relationships independent of nested structure. Bioenergy cropping significantly reduces the spatiotemporal scaling rates, particularly in sandy loam soils.

Discovery of novel geranylgeranyl reductases and characterization of their substrate promiscuity

open access: yesBiotechnology for Biofuels, 2018
Background Geranylgeranyl reductase (GGR) is a flavin-containing redox enzyme that hydrogenates a variety of unactivated polyprenyl substrates, which are further processed mostly for lipid biosynthesis in archaea or chlorophyll biosynthesis in plants. To

Mutual Dependence between Sustainable Energy- and Sustainable Agriculture Policies-from the Global and European Perspective [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Agriculture is one of the economic sectors to which the EU commitment to reduce emissions of greenhouse gases applies. Like any other economic sector, agriculture produces greenhouse gases and is a major source of the non- CO2 greenhouse gases methane ...

Structural and Mechanical Dynamics of Polymer Membranes Across Multilength Scales

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Distinct surface‐to‐bulk mechanical contrasts in polymer membranes were unveiled, highlighting the need to probe both regions to fully capture their functional behavior. By integrating in situ SAXS–WAXS with AFM‐based nanomechanics, nanodomain‐level heterogeneity and real‐time structural transformations induced by thermal and mechanical stimuli were ...
