Bioimpedance Analysis: Basic Concepts

Journal of Renal Nutrition and Metabolism, 2023
Bioimpedance analyzers uses these differences in the electrical properties of the human body to analyze the cellular and water components. Human body acts as a semiconductor, with the various body compartments offering resistance (R) and reactance (X) to the passage of alternating current.

Bioimpedance and Bioimpedance Vector Analysis in patients with Anorexia Nervosa

European Eating Disorders Review, 2012
AbstractObjectiveThe utility of bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) in patients with anorexia nervosa (AN) is imperfectly defined. Furthermore, any advantage accrued by BIA with vector analysis (BIVA) is unknown.MethodWe conducted a retrospective analysis of 57 women with AN admitted to our service who underwent BIA and BIVA. Twenty‐seven women were

Bioimpedance analysis and HIV-related fatigue

Journal of the Association of Nurses in AIDS Care, 2005
Although various physiological and psychological causes of fatigue in HIV-positive persons have been proposed, it is still not well understood. Bioimpedance analysis has proved to be an easily used, non-invasive measurement of body composition and cellular integrity.

Bioimpedance Analysis (BIA) in Hemodialysis: Technical Aspects

The International Journal of Artificial Organs, 1995
Phase-sensitive impedance analysis in association with anthropometric parameters provides adequate body composition estimates in nephropathic subjects, with complex three-compartment modelling as a reference. Extracellular fluid shifts can be detected during ultrafiltration by phase sensitive impedance analyzers.

Towards Real-time Multiplexed Bioimpedance Tumour-Tissue Margin Analysis

2023 45th Annual International Conference of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine & Biology Society (EMBC), 2023
Bioimpedance varies with physical tissue characteristics. As such it can be used for real-time tissue discrimination. This has led to its application as a surgical mapping tool to differentiate between healthy and abnormal tissue intraoperatively during tumour resection. Here, we build on previous work implementing a probe-based tetrapolar bioimpedance

Fourier Analysis of Human Finger Bioimpedance Variances

Bulletin of Experimental Biology and Medicine, 2010
Fourier analysis was employed to determine the amplitudes of spectrum components of small variations of electrical resistance (bioimpedance) in human finger recorded using an original hardware-software complex. It revealed periodic bioimpedance oscillations at the frequencies of heartbeats, respiration, and Mayer wave (0.1 Hz).

Simulation of Bioimpedance Analysis in MATLAB

Biomedical Engineering, 2013
Technology for simulation of bioimpedance analysis is presented using mathematical and physical models of Simulink MATLAB software. The resulting virtual bioimpedance model allows dynamic and basic bioimpedance components to be simulated, thereby providing adequate models for a biological object, as well as a monitoring tract.

Liver Cancer Analysis Using Bioimpedance

2015
In this work the impedance analysis is used in order to determinate differences between tumor and unaltered liver tissue. The electrical characterization of tissues at 10 to 200 KHz is obtained by the four electrode measurement method. The difference between the tissues is determined by phase angle measured at 50 KHz.

The Use of Bioimpedance Analysis to Evaluate Lymphedema

Annals of Plastic Surgery, 2007
Lymphedema, a chronic disfiguring condition resulting from lymphatic dysfunction or disruption, can be difficult to accurately diagnose and manage. Of particular challenge is identifying the presence of clinically significant limb swelling through simple and noninvasive methods.
