Reference wet grasslands to support conservation and restoration assessments in the Brazilian Savanna

open access: yesRestoration Ecology, EarlyView.
Abstract Introduction Grassy wetlands of the Cerrado provide key ecosystem services but remain largely overlooked and are rapidly disappearing, threatened by land use change and climate‐driven changes in hydrological cycles. As restoration initiatives are urgent, reference ecosystems and robust indicators are essential to guide conservation and ...

Comparative and functional anatomy of masticatory muscles and bite force in opossums (Didelphimorphia, Didelphidae)

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, Volume 309, Issue 9, Page 2346-2367, September 2026.
We describe the functional anatomy of masticatory muscles in nine opossums, finding a generalized anatomical pattern with differences related to skull morphology. Variation in quantitative myological data and estimated bite force was mostly related to size, and the increase in bite force supports dietary diversification associated with size increase ...

Floral biology of candeia (Eremanthus erythropappus, Asteraceae)

Biologia floral da candeia (Eremanthus erythropappus, Asteraceae) [PDF]

open access: yesPesquisa Florestal Brasileira, 2012
Floral biology and pollinators of candeia (Eremanthus erythropappus) were analyzed in a natural population. We studied anthesis, flower morphology, stigmatic receptivity, pollen viability and floral visitors.

Interpopulation Variation in Seed Germination in Three Plantago Species: Effects of Temperature, Osmotic Stress, and Salinity

open access: yesNew Zealand Journal of Botany, Volume 64, Issue 3, September 2026.
Plantago species are widespread in the Mediterranean and have potential applications in restoration of degraded or saline soils. This study examined germination responses of Plantago albicans, P. coronopus, and P. maritima from multiple Iberian populations under different temperature, osmotic stress, and salinity.

Projected Climate‐Suitable Area for Apis mellifera (Apidae) and Its Spatial Overlap With a Mining Tailings Footprint in South‐East Brazil

open access: yesJournal of Applied Entomology, Volume 150, Issue 8, Page 1017-1024, September 2026.
ABSTRACT Climate change and environmental disasters can jointly impact species distributions and ecosystem stability, including pollinators and the resources they rely on. We used occurrence and climate data to predict the distribution of Apis mellifera in the Doce River Basin, south‐east Brazil, under baseline and future scenarios (2050).

Soil and Forest Degradation Driven by Cattle Grazing and Selective Logging in Sub‐Antarctic Nothofagus Ecosystems of Patagonia

open access: yesLand Degradation &Development, Volume 37, Issue 14, Page 10532-10545, 30 August 2026.
ABSTRACT Soil and forest degradation driven by chronic land‐use pressures is an increasingly widespread process in forested landscapes worldwide, yet its empirical characterization remains limited, particularly in temperate and sub‐Antarctic ecosystems.

Vitex oreadica and V. umbellata (Lamiaceae): two new species from Cerrado and Atlantic forest of Brazil

open access: yesNordic Journal of Botany, Volume 2026, Issue 8, August 2026.
Vitex L. is a pantropical genus of Lamiaceae comprising 209 taxa. Brazil harbors 35 species, representing nearly 50% of the genus richness in the Neotropics, with the Amazon showing the highest richness, followed by the Atlantic Forest and Cerrado domains. Nevertheless, most taxonomic studies of the genus have been conducted in Africa and Asia.

Reestablishment and a new name for Actinostemon grandifolius (Müll.Arg.) Pax

open access: yesNordic Journal of Botany, Volume 2026, Issue 8, August 2026.
The genus Actinostemon has undergone several changes in its circumscription due to persistent difficulties in its taxonomic placement. The taxonomic history of the genus is controversial and marked by nomenclatural issues, particularly involving its type species, Actinostemon grandifolius Klotzsch, including incorrect synonymizations and the ...

Biologia floral de Zeyheria tuberculosa (Bignoniaceae)

open access: yes, 2015

Cybianthus anthuriophyllus (Primulaceae), a new record for the flora of Colombia: distribution modeling and conservation assessment

open access: yesNordic Journal of Botany, Volume 2026, Issue 8, August 2026.
Cybianthus anthuriophyllus (Primulaceae) was previously known from eastern Ecuador and northern Peru. Here we document the first confirmed occurrences of this species in Colombia and develop a distribution model based on collections from the Andean–Amazonian foothills of Caquetá, Cauca, and Putumayo departments, in order to clarify its conservation ...
