Biological Tissue Diagnostics Using Needle Biopsy and Spray Ionization Mass Spectrometry [PDF]

open access: yesAnalytical Chemistry, 2011
Needle biopsy is a routine medical procedure for examining tissue or biofluids for the presence of disease using standard methods of pathology. In this work, spray ionization directly from tissue in the biopsy needle is shown to provide highly specific molecular information through mass spectrometry analysis.

Use of biological characteristics to type Herpesvirus hominis types 1 and 2 in diagnostic laboratories [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Microbiology, 1976
Fifty clinical isolates of Herpesvirus hominis were typed by pock size on chicken embryo chorioallantoic membranes, sensitivity to heparin, and plaque formation on chicken embryo cell cultures. Of 19 isolates that were typed serologically, there was 100% concordance with respect to plaque formation.

Quantification of biological network perturbations for mechanistic insight and diagnostics using two-layer causal models [PDF]

open access: yesBMC Bioinformatics, 2014
High-throughput measurement technologies such as microarrays provide complex datasets reflecting mechanisms perturbed in an experiment, typically a treatment vs. control design. Analysis of these information rich data can be guided based on a priori knowledge, such as networks or set of related proteins or genes.

Biological activity and diagnostic use of detergent soluble antigens fromSetaria digitata

open access: yesJournal of Biosciences, 1995
Filarial parasite, responsible for filariasis is known to remain in the host for long periods of time. A 29 kDa protein isolated fromSetaria digitata by gel electrophoresis and electroelution of detergent soluble surface antigens showed a 70% inhibition of the cell mediated immune response.

The use of molecular diagnostics of BLV in the study of various biological material

open access: yesVeterinaria i kormlenie, 2021
It is known that milk is one of the factors in the transmission of susceptible cattle to retroviral infection, in this case, induced bovine leukemia virus (BLV). On the other hand, one of the most important aspects of studying the biological properties of BLV is the potential ability of the virus to infect xenogenic species of animals, including humans,

Deep learning architecture “LightOCT” for diagnostic decision support using optical coherence tomography images of biological samples

open access: yesBiomedical Optics Express, 2020
Optical coherence tomography (OCT) is being increasingly adopted as a label-free and non-invasive technique for biomedical applications such as cancer and ocular disease diagnosis. Diagnostic information for these tissues is manifest in textural and geometric features of the OCT images, which are used by human expertise to interpret and triage. However,

Biological Measurements Using Polymer Particles Focussing on Clinical Diagnostic and Research Fields

open access: yesKobunshi, 2005

Diagnostic nanoparticle targeting of the EGF-receptor in complex biological conditions using single-domain antibodies

open access: yesNanoscale, 2014
Nanoparticles functionalized with single domain antibodies are shown to specifically target the EGF receptor in vitro. We investigate the effects on uptake and specificity when increasing the environmental serum toward more in vivo "realistic" concentrations.

Construction and verification of atopic dermatitis diagnostic model based on pyroptosis related biological markers using machine learning methods

open access: yesBMC Medical Genomics, 2023
Abstract Objective The aim of this study was to construct a model used for the accurate diagnosis of Atopic dermatitis (AD) using pyroptosis related biological markers (PRBMs) through the methods of machine learning. Method The pyroptosis related genes (PRGs) were acquired ...
