Global modeling of secondary organic aerosol formation from aromatic hydrocarbons: high- vs low-yield pathways [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Formation of SOA from the aromatic species toluene, xylene, and, for the first time, benzene, is added to a global chemical transport model. A simple mechanism is presented that accounts for competition between low and high-yield pathways of SOA ...

Self‐Sintering Ionogel Binder for Flexible, Recyclable, and Healable Printed Giant Magnetoresistive Sensors

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Electronic waste has emerged as a major environmental challenge, driven by the massive consumption and a limited lifetime of modern electronic devices, stimulating the development of sustainable electronics. Here, an all‐biomaterial gelatin‐choline‐citric acid ([Ch][CA]) ionogel is developed as an active binder to realize self‐sintered ...

Ecohydrological Controls on Grass and Shrub Above-ground Net Primary Productivity in a Seasonally Dry Climate [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Seasonally dry, water‐limited regions are often co‐dominated by distinct herbaceous and woody plant communities with contrasting ecohydrological properties.

A dynamic model of crop growth and partitioning of biomass

open access: yesField Crops Research, 1999
A model is presented of growth and partitioning to leaves, stems and roots in herbaceous, vegetative crops in response to atmospheric conditions and water supply. It comprises 12 state variables and 33 parameters (including four functional relationships), all of direct physiological significance.

Single‐ and Dual‐Atom Configurations in Atomically Dispersed Catalysts for Lithium–Sulfur Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Single‐atom and dual‐atom‐based atomically dispersed catalysts (ADCs) effectively address the shuttle effect and sluggish redox kinetics in Li–S batteries. With nearly 100% atomic utilization and tunable coordination environments, ADCs enhance LiPSs adsorption, lower conversion barriers, and accelerate sulfur redox reactions.

Transgenic approaches to altering carbon and nitrogen partitioning in whole plants: Assessing the potential to improve crop yields and nutritional quality

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2015
The principal components of plant productivity and nutritional value, from the standpoint of modern agriculture, are the acquisition and partitioning of organic carbon (C) and nitrogen (N) compounds among the various organs of the plant.

Cyclic Olefin Copolymers as Versatile Materials for Advanced Engineering Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Cyclic olefin copolymers (COCs) are presented as highly versatile materials combining tunable synthesis, excellent optical properties, and mechanical robustness. Their potential spans microfluidics, bioengineering, and advanced electronics, while emerging self‐healing and sustainable solutions highlight future opportunities.

The effect of canopy position on growth and mortality in mixed sapling communities during self-thinning [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
This research investigates how species in the sapling phase differ in growth and survival depending on light availability (as estimated by canopy position) by means of tree-ring analysis and modelling mortality.
