Biocatalytic Nanoregulators Restore Joint Redox‐Immune Homeostasis in Rheumatoid Arthritis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Mesenchymal stem cell‐derived extracellular vesicles (EVs) coat ruthenium‐loaded metal‐organic frameworks (Ru@ZrMOF), creating a targeted therapeutic (Ru@ZrMOF/EVs). This platform scavenges ROS, generates oxygen, and polarizes macrophages from M1 to M2, alleviating inflammation, inhibiting pannus, promoting cartilage repair, and downregulating HIF‐1α ...

Physics of Organelle Membrane Bridging via Cytosolic Tethers is Distinct From Cell Adhesion

open access: yesFrontiers in Physics, 2022
Tremendous progress has been made recently in imaging the contacts between intra-cellular organelles, which are thought to be mediated by soluble tethers.

Extra-matrix Mg\u3csup\u3e2+\u3c/sup\u3e Limits Ca\u3csup\u3e2+\u3c/sup\u3e Uptake and Modulates Ca\u3csup\u3e2+\u3c/sup\u3e Uptake-independent Respiration and Redox State in Cardiac Isolated Mitochondria [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Cardiac mitochondrial matrix (m) free Ca2+ ([Ca2+]m) increases primarily by Ca2+ uptake through the Ca2+ uniporter (CU). Ca2+ uptake via the CU is attenuated by extra-matrix (e) Mg2+ ([Mg2+]e).

On solutions of a Boussinesq-type equation with amplitude-dependent nonlinearities: the case of biomembranes

open access: yes, 2016
Boussinesq-type wave equations involve nonlinearities and dispersion. In this paper a Boussinesq-type equation with amplitude-dependent nonlinearities is presented.

Engineering Osteoimmune Responses with Functionalized Orthopedic Implants for Post‐Operative Osteosarcoma Treatment

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Osteosarcoma is the most common primary bone tumor with limited treatment options and a terrible prognosis. This review provides a comprehensive summary of the recent development of osteoimmunomodulatory implants for post‐operative osteosarcoma treatment, of which the potential utility in evoking durable anti‐osteosarcoma immunity and accelerating bone

Flexible, high‐strength titanium nanowire for scaffold biomimetic periodontal membrane

open access: yesBiosurface and Biotribology, 2021
A layer of micro‐sized periodontal membrane can buffer most chewing forces to protect the interface between the natural tooth root and alveolar bone. Artificial dental implants usually direct contact onto the alveolar bone without a buffer layer, which ...

The Influence of Short Motifs on the Anticancer Activity of HB43 Peptide

open access: yesPharmaceutics, 2022
Despite the remarkable similarity in amino acid composition, many anticancer peptides (ACPs) display significant differences in terms of activity. This strongly suggests that particular relative dispositions of amino acids (motifs) play a role in the ...

The stability of solitons in biomembranes and nerves [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
We examine the stability of a class of solitons, obtained from a generalization of the Boussinesq equation, which have been proposed to be relevant for pulse propagation in biomembranes and nerves.

Endocytic Control of Cell‐Autonomous and Non‐Cell‐Autonomous Functions of p53

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
NUMB Ex3‐containing isoforms localize to the plasma membrane, where they recruit p53 through SNX9 and direct it to multivesicular bodies and exosomes. Exported p53 is taken up by neighboring cells and activates nuclear programs, revealing an intercellular, exosome‐based pathway that might help establish a tumor‐suppressive microenvironment.

Remodeling of Biomembranes and Vesicles by Adhesion of Condensate Droplets

open access: yesMembranes, 2023
Condensate droplets are formed in aqueous solutions of macromolecules that undergo phase separation into two liquid phases. A well-studied example are solutions of the two polymers PEG and dextran which have been used for a long time in biochemical ...
