Biosynthesis of Biopterin by Rat Brain

Journal of Neurochemistry, 1982
Abstract: A method for the determination of [14C]biopterin biosynthesis from [14C]guanosine‐5′‐triphosphate by a desalted preparation from rat striatum, based on sequential reverse‐phase and cation‐exchange high performance liquid chromatography, is described.

Plasma biopterin levels and tetrahydrobiopterin responsiveness

Molecular Genetics and Metabolism, 2005
Tetrahydrobiopterin (BH4) responsive hyperphenylalaninemia (HPA) with a mutant phenylalanine hydroxylase (PAH) gene was found during neonatal screening for PKU. This study determined blood BH4 and phenylalanine in two patients with hyperphenylalaninemia following oral load with BH4 10 mg/kg. Our patients underwent neonatal screening for PKU, had normal

Biopterin and neopterin in human saliva

Life Sciences, 1989
Presence of biopterin and neopterin in human saliva was investigated by HPLC after iodine oxidation in acidic medium. Concentrations of biopterin and neopterin (M +/- SEM) were 1.271 +/- 0.254 and 0.358 +/- 0.075 ng per ml, respectively, in saliva of apparently healthy young male adults, ages 20 to 22 years (n = 9).

Biopterin cofactor and monoamine-synthesizing monooxygenases

Neurochemistry International, 1983
The activities of three pterin-requiring monooxygenases, phenylalanine hydroxylase, tyrosine hydroxylase and tryptophan hydroxylase, are regulated by the level of the pterin cofactor, (6R)- l -erythro- tetrahydrobiopterin , which is synthesized from guanosine triphosphate (GTP).

Biopterin

Neurochemical Research, 1981
Repeated intraventricular injections of 2,4-diamino-6-hydroxypyrimidine (DAO-Pyr), inhibitor of D-erythro-q-dihydroneopterin triphosphate synthetase, inhibited q-BH2 synthesis from GTP, markedly increased accumulation of 2-amino-4-hydroxy-5 (or -6)-formamido-6-triphosphoribosylaminopyrimidine (FPyd-P3) and brought about a 60% decrease in the in vivo of

Screening for Biopterin Disorders in PKU

Pediatrics, 1980
It is now recognized (Pediatrics 65:806, 1980) that a small proportion of cases of phenylketonuria (PKU) may be due to abnormalities in the metabolism of biopterin. These cases do not respond to the restriction of dietary phenylalanine, but may be benefited by neurotransmitter replacement therapy. A specific diagnosis is therefore desirable.

Biopterin: Reduced form in Ascaris lumbricoides

Experimental Parasitology, 1970
Abstract A blue fluorescent substance which was supposed to be “Ascaris-blue” was extracted from Ascaris muscle. After Chromatographic purification, the substance was identified as biopterin, 2-amino-4-hydroxy-6-(erythro-1′, 2′-dihydroxypropyl)pteridine.

Synthesis of biopterin and related pterin glycosides

IUBMB Life, 2013
AbstractCertain pterins having a hydroxyalkyl side chain at C‐6 have been found as glycosidic forms in certain prokaryotes, such as 2′‐O‐(α‐D‐glucopyranosyl)biopterin from various kinds of cyanobacteria, and limipterin from a green sulfur photosynthetic bacterium.

A new synthesis of biopterin

Journal of the Chemical Society C: Organic, 1969
An unambiguous synthesis of biopterin [2-amino-6-(L-erythro-1,2-dihydroxypropyl)pteridin-4-(3H)-one] is described; based on an improved synthesis of L-neopterin. The synthesis yields biopterin, a naturally occurring pteridine, in a pure, crystalline form without recourse to chromatography. D-Biopterin and D-neopterin are also described.
