Intrinsic Photoactive Star ZnPc–Poly(glutamate) Nanoplatforms for Multimodal Glioblastoma Therapy and Brain‐Targeted Delivery

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
An intrinsic photoactive star‐shaped zinc phtalocyanine‐poly(L‐glutamic acid) (ZnPc‐PGA) nanoplatform for multimodal glioblastoma (GBM) therapy and brain‐targeted elivery. A ZnPc‐PGA‐based multifunctional theranostic nanocarrier platform enables image‐guided, multimodal GBM therapy. ZnPc‐PGA nanocarriers support the integration of fluorescence imaging,

Validating Autoclave Cycles for Carcass Disposal in Animal Biosafety Level 2/3 Containment Laboratories

open access: yes, 2022
Introduction: Animal carcasses differ in composition from other types of solid waste, and through prior testing it was determined that cycle parameters applied to general, solid biohazardous waste did not ensure proper sterilization of ferret carcasses ...

Methodological validation of a cryo-TEM-based detection method for empty capsid ratio in recombinant adeno-associated virus

open access: yesBiochemistry and Biophysics Reports
Recombinant adeno-associated virus (rAAV) is one of the most promising vectors for gene therapy. It consists of a protein capsid that encapsulates the genetic material.

The strictest biosafety [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, 2014
In a small town in the middle of Montana, biologists handle deadly pathogens such as Ebola. Hamilton, with a population of about 4,500, hosts the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases’ Rocky Mountain Laboratories, one of a few dozen facilities worldwide equipped to deal with disease agents designated the strictest biosafety level 4 (BSL-

A Long‐Lived Human Neurovascular PENTA Culture Model Captures Incomplete Vascular Repair and Glia‐Associated Signaling After Traumatic Brain Injury

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
A long‐lived, five‐cell‐type human neurovascular (PENTA) model recreates vascular disorganization and incomplete repair after traumatic brain injury (TBI). By integrating endothelial, glial, neuronal, and immune components within a 3D scaffold, the platform enables time‐resolved analysis of neurovascular remodeling and provides a human‐relevant system ...

Design and Synthesis of Peptide‐Polyester Conjugates for Cell‐Mediated Scaffold Degradation

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This work describes polycaprolactone (PCL)‐based biomaterials engineered to degrade in response to cell‐secreted proteases. A fast‐degrading peptide (Fast) sequence is integrated into a PCL conjugate backbone to produce a biomaterial that is selectively degraded by multiple cell types compared to its scrambled control (ScrFast).

Biosafety Risk Assessment of a Routine Diagnostic Laboratory During the Coronavirus Disease 2019 Pandemic

open access: yes, 2021
Background: In this study, we aimed to perform a biosafety risk assessment to determine measures to be taken against coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in the routine diagnostic parasitology laboratory of a tertiary health care center. Methods: The risk

A Systematic Study of GelMA‐Carbopol Bioinks for High‐Fidelity Extrusion 3D Bioprinting at Physiological Temperatures

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Gonzalez Martinez and collaborators develop a strategy to formulate high performance GelMA‐based bioinks with low solids contents. The resulting bioinks enable 3D bioprinting at 37 °C of high‐fidelity structures with tunable mechanical properties that support high cell viability and function.

Biosafety knowledge and perception among medical laboratory students: a cross-sectional study at a medical university in Vietnam

open access: yesInternational Journal of Occupational Safety and Health
Introduction: Medical students have to deal with biohazards in laboratories during undergraduate studies and intensive practice in hospitals. Unsafe operators can result in an outbreak of biohazardous pathogens to healthcare workers, the community, and ...

Immunoinflammatory Mechanisms and Biocompatibility of Bioactive Dental Biomaterials: From Fundamental Insights to Clinical Translation

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Surface‐host dialogue at the implant interface governs biological fate and osseointegration. Surface physicochemical properties of titanium (Ti) dental implants, including microgrooves, nanopatterns, nanotopography, roughness, and wettability, modulate the initial adsorption of proteins and the formation of a dynamic biointerface.
