Biosafety risk assessment and management of laboratory-derived influenza A (H5N1) viruses transmissible in ferrets

open access: yes, 2013
Highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) A (H5N1) viruses occasionally infect humans, but currently do not transmit efficiently among them. However, the risk for human pandemic influenza is a major concern should these viruses acquire the capacity for ...

A Dual‐Bioresponsive and Programmable Microneedle Matrix as a Bioinspired Coupler for Orchestrating Diabetic Bone Regeneration

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This project developed a smart bandage‐like patch (a microneedle array) for repairing diabetic bone damage. It intelligently senses signals from infection and inflammation, then releases its medicines in a specific, timed sequence: first an antibacterial agent, then an anti‐inflammatory agent, and finally growth factors.

Mechanism‐Driven Nanoformulations for Cognitive Impairment Induced by Intermittent Hypoxia and Periodontitis

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Clinically, intermittent hypoxia (IH) is often accompanied by periodontitis, which accelerates cognitive impairment induced by IH. Novel Janus mesoporous gold‐silica nanoformulations (RVG‐Au&mSiO2‐TPP‐VB) enable intranasal delivery, achieve hierarchical targeting to neuronal mitochondria, effectively scavenge reactive oxygen species, inhibit the HIF‐1α/
