Microbial biotransformation of DON: molecular basis for reduced toxicity

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2016
Bacteria are able to de-epoxidize or epimerize deoxynivalenol (DON), a mycotoxin, to deepoxy-deoxynivalenol (deepoxy-DON or DOM-1) or 3-epi-deoxynivalenol (3-epi-DON), respectively.

Generation of Perfluoroalkyl Acids from Aerobic Biotransformation of Quaternary Ammonium Polyfluoroalkyl Surfactants.

open access: yesEnvironmental Science and Technology, 2016
The aerobic biotransformation over 180 days of two cationic quaternary ammonium compounds (QACs) with perfluoroalkyl chains was determined in soil microcosms, and biotransformation pathways were proposed.

An Overview of Biotransformation and Toxicity of Diterpenes

open access: yesMolecules, 2018
Diterpenes have been identified as active compounds in several medicinal plants showing remarkable biological activities, and some isolated diterpenes are produced at commercial scale to be used as medicines, food additives, in the synthesis of ...

Molecular biomarkers and toxic consequences of impact by organic pollution in aquatic organisms [PDF]

open access: yes, 1994
Organic contaminants are readily bioaccumulated by aquatic organisms. Exposure to and toxic effects of contaminants can be measured in terms of the biochemical responses of the organisms (i.e. molecular biomarkers).

Elucidating the Impact of Low Dissolved Oxygen Wastewater Treatment on Pharmaceutical Fate. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
More than half of the energy in conventional wastewater treatment is consumed by aeration. To achieve substantial energy savings and comply with increasingly stringent effluent nutrient regulations, wastewater utilities are beginning to control and ...

Phylogeny and Biotransformation. Part 5*: Biotransformation of Isopinocampheol

open access: yesZeitschrift für Naturforschung C, 1994
Abstract Biotransformation of isopinocampheol with 100 bacterial and fungal strains yielded 1-, 2-, 4-, 5-, 7-, 8 - and 9-hydroxy-isopinocampheol besides three rearranged monoterpenes, one of them bearing the novel isocarane skeleton. A pronounced enantioselectivity between (+)- and (-)-isopinocampheol was observed.

The Mercury-Tolerant Microbiota of the Zooplankton Daphnia Aids in Host Survival and Maintains Fecundity under Mercury Stress. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Many aquatic organisms can thrive in polluted environments by having the genetic capability to withstand suboptimal conditions. However, the contributions of microbiomes under these stressful environments are poorly understood.
