The Prevalence and Implications of Polypharmacy in Individuals With Type 1 Diabetes

open access: yesClinical Pharmacology &Therapeutics, EarlyView.
Polypharmacy is increasingly recognized as a relevant issue in diabetes care, but its prevalence and clinical relevance in individuals with type 1 diabetes remain underexplored. This study aimed to determine the prevalence of polypharmacy and to identify associated clinical and psychological factors. Participants were recruited from a tertiary diabetes

Prevention and treatment of oral adverse effects of antiresorptive medications for osteoporosis – A position paper of the Brazilian Society of Endocrinology and Metabolism (SBEM), Brazilian Society of Stomatology and Oral Pathology (Sobep), and Brazilian Association for Bone Evaluation and Osteometabolism (Abrasso)

open access: yesArchives of Endocrinology and Metabolism, 2020
Antiresorptive therapy is the main form of prevention of osteoporotic or fragility fractures. Medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (MRONJ) is a relatively rare but severe adverse reaction to antiresorptive and antiangiogenic drugs.

Photoinduced Free‐Radical Preparation of Bis‐Phosphonates and Bis‐Phosphinates from Alkynes

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Organic Chemistry, EarlyView.
A simple procedure for the double hydrophospho(i)nylation of terminal alkynes, using photoinduced organic radical chemistry, is reported in order to access bisphosphonates and bisphosphinates. The reaction is carried out in air without any metal catalyst or ligand.

Healing following ridge preservation using demineralized allograft particles or fibers alone, and combined with xenograft

open access: yesJournal of Periodontology, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Allografts and xenografts are viable options for alveolar ridge preservation. This study evaluated histologic wound healing when using demineralized freeze‐dried bone allograft (DFDBA) alone, in fiber or particulate form, and in combination with xenograft. Alveolar dimensional changes were also evaluated.

What do we know about atypical femoral fractures? Insights and enigmas [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Although the existence of atypical femoral fractures is well established and bisphosphonate therapy is thought to be a major risk factor, the underlying mechanisms are poorly understood.

The effect of non‐surgical periodontal treatment on Dickkopf‐1 and secreted Frizzled‐Related Protein 5 levels

open access: yesJournal of Periodontology, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Recent advancements in bone tissue biomarker research have identified 2 promising molecules: Dickkopf‐1 and secreted Frizzled‐Related Protein 5. This study aims to evaluate the levels of these biomarkers in gingival crevicular fluid in periodontal health, gingivitis, and periodontitis and to assess the effects of non‐surgical ...
