Suitability of Chitosan as an emulsifier for cationic bitumen emulsions and its behaviour as an additive to bitumen emulsion

open access: yesConstruction and Building Materials, 2016
Abstract Chitosan contains amine and amino groups which have the ability to generate cationic type surfactants when combined with H + ions. It has a high potential for use as a cationic emulsifier for negatively charged siliceous aggregates for paving of roads in Sri Lanka.

ATOMIZATION CHARACTERISTICS OF BITUMEN CRUDE-WATER EMULSION

open access: yesAtomization and Sprays, 1998
Measurements of the angular patterns of scattered light were carried out on sprays of an emulsion of bitumen crude (70% by weight) in water produced by a home-built air-assisted atomizer at different air flow rates. The size distribution of the bitumen droplets was previously measured by optical microscopy.

Influence of bitumen emulsion on the curing behaviour of standardised cold bitumen emulsion mortars

open access: yesRoad Materials and Pavement Design, 2021
This research was part of the RILEM TC 280-CBE interlaboratory testing aiming to characterise the role of mortars as mesoscale model systems and establish a link between the properties of bitumen emulsions and the performance of cold bitumen emulsion ...

Evaluation of bonding between reclaimed asphalt aggregate and bitumen emulsion composites

open access: yesConstruction and Building Materials, 2018
The bond strength between bituminous binder and aggregate is fundamental to evaluate the performance and durability of cold bitumen emulsion mixtures (CBEM).

A predictive and experimental method to assess bitumen emulsion wetting on mineral substrates

open access: yesColloids and Surfaces A: Physicochemical and Engineering Aspects, 2016
International audienceThis paper deals with wetting kinetics and adhesion of bitumen emulsions on mineral surfaces. To this purpose, four mineral substrates: gneiss, diorite, limestone and quartzite and three emulsions were tested.
