Imaging techniques applied to characterize bitumen and bituminous emulsions
Advances in Colloid and Interface Science, 2008The purpose of this article is to present some important advances in the imaging techniques currently used in the characterization of bitumen and bituminous emulsions. Bitumen exhibits some properties, such as a black colour and a reflecting surface at rest, which permit the use of optical techniques to study the macroscopic behaviour of asphalt mixes ...

Study of the electrical properties of cationic bitumen emulsions by microelectrophoresis
Advances in Colloid and Interface Science, 2004We investigate in the present work, the effects of the emulsifier nature and content on the aqueous phase viscosity and on the zeta potential of cationic bitumen emulsions, in the pH range 2-13. The bitumen in water emulsions was prepared at pH values in the range 2-2.4 and in the presence of complementary emulsifiers' pair made of protonated amine 70 ...

Comparative Study on Properties of Bitumen Hot Mix and Bitumen Emulsion Mix
Zorig Melong | A Technical Journal of Science, Engineering and Technology, 2015This study involves the preparation of mix samples of bitumen hot mix and bitumen emulsion mix (cold mix) by adopting the Marshall Method procedure. The method utilizes the evaluation of penetration and softening temperature of bitumen 80/100 grade as a standard.

STORAGE STABILITY OF CATIONIC BITUMEN EMULSIONS
Theory and Building PracticeThe compositions of cationic road bitumen emulsions based on special emulsifiers ensuring high storage stability were developed. The variability of storage stability results obtained by different test methods was analyzed, namely: sieving after 7 and 30 days (using 0.14 mm and 0.5 mm sieves) and the settling tendency test on day 7.

The Rheological Properties of Bitumen Emulsions
2011This article is the first of a series of two that presents a comparison between the rheological properties of bitumen emulsions as measured either by means of efflux time viscometers (NF T66-020 and prEN 12846) or by more fundamental methods using a constant-rate rheometer. In this first part, the basic theory behind efflux time measurements is derived
