Recovery of male DNA acquired from carrion‐feeding insects in a simulated sexual assault scenario

open access: yesJournal of Forensic Sciences, EarlyView.
Abstract When bodies of sexual assault victims are discovered in advanced stages of decomposition, the recovery of direct DNA evidence is often compromised, posing a challenge in criminal investigations. This study aimed to determine insect colonization and succession patterns on pig carcasses inoculated with semen and to assess the feasibility of ...

A cavity-stabilized laser with acceleration sensitivity below $10^{-12}$/g

open access: yes, 2012
We characterize the frequency-sensitivity of a cavity-stabilized laser to inertial forces and temperature fluctuations, and perform real-time feed-forward to correct for these sources of noise.

Adaptation of the invasive pest Drosophila suzukii to a specialized nutritional niche

open access: yesInsect Science, EarlyView.
Unlike most Drosophila larvae that feed on spoiled food, Drosophila suzukii larvae thrive on ripening fruits and consequently face a low‐protein, high‐carbohydrate nutritional challenge. Comparisons of growth among D. suzukii, D. biarmipes, and D. melanogaster larvae across diets with varying protein‐to‐carbohydrate ratios demonstrate that D.

Evaluation of Trichoderma spp. and Bacillus subtilis against Pythium vexans causes root rot on black pepper

open access: yesTạp chí Khoa học Đại học Mở Thành phố Hồ Chí Minh - Kỹ thuật và Công nghệ, 2018
Pythium spp. are well known as one of the main pathogens causing quick wilt disease of black pepper and severely reducing pepper yield (Shashidhara, 2007).

Experience and self‐interest: Diverging responses to global warming

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Political Science, EarlyView.
Abstract People are increasingly feeling global warming's effects through extreme heat and natural disasters. How do these climate shocks affect political attitudes? We argue that the effect of climate‐related experiences depends significantly on self‐interest.

A novel Phytopythium species causing root rot of Salvia miltiorrhiza in China: pathogenicity, molecular identification, and biocontrol potential

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science
In the Shangluo region of China, Salvia miltiorrhiza plants have been observed with black-brown necrosis on the aerial parts, while the roots retain an intact epidermis but display internal rot that can be easily crushed by hand.

Interferometric length metrology for the dimensional control of ultra-stable Ring Laser Gyroscopes

open access: yes, 2014
We present the experimental test of a method for controlling the absolute length of the diagonals of square ring laser gyroscopes. The purpose is to actively stabilize the ring cavity geometry and to enhance the rotation sensor stability in order to ...
