Quantum atomic delocalization vs. structural disorder in amorphous silicon

open access: yes, 1998
Quantum effects on the atom delocalization in amorphous silicon have been studied by path-integral Monte Carlo simulations from 30 to 800 K. The quantum delocalization is appreciable vs.

Tuning the Dielectric Properties of Individual Clay Nanosheets by Interlayer Composition: Toward Nano‐Electret Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The dielectric properties of clays are studied on the level of individual monolayers and functional double stacks. The material breakdown characteristics and charge storage performance are analyzed. For illustration, a defined charge pattern representing a cuneiform character is produced, written into a microscopic clay tile, referencing the origins of

Black Shale Lithofacies of the Wufeng–Longmaxi Formation in the Southeast Margin of Chongqing, China

open access: yesGeofluids
China’s shale gas has undergone nearly 20 years of exploration; unconventional oil and gas geological evaluation theories and research methods have been greatly enriched, but how to quickly, conveniently, and accurately identify the sweet spots of shale ...

Optimization of the Optical Properties of Black Silicon Solar Cell

open access: yesEast European Journal of Physics
Black silicon (BSi) is an important texturized form of a semiconducting material used in photovoltaic solar cell technology. It is characterized by surface structuration of silicon with very low reflectance. In this paper, we study the optical properties

Chandra X-ray spectroscopy of the focused wind in the Cygnus X-1 system III. Dipping in the low/hard state

open access: yes, 2019
We present an analysis of three Chandra High Energy Transmission Gratings observations of the black hole binary Cyg X-1/HDE 226868 at different orbital phases. The stellar wind that is powering the accretion in this system is characterized by temperature

Understanding and Tuning Mobile Interfaces in Ferroelectric Hf0.5Zr0.5O2 Thin Films in Relation to Microstructure

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Ferroelectricity in thin HfO2‐based films offers great possibilities for next‐generation neuromorphic memory devices. There, the response to subcoercive voltage signals is driven by the movement of mobile interfaces and their interaction with crystal defects – a yet rather unexplored aspect, which we shed light on and gain new insights into the complex

Bipolar-Driven Large Magnetoresistance in Silicon

open access: yes, 2013
Large linear magnetoresistance (MR) in electron-injected p-type silicon at very low magnetic field is observed experimentally at room temperature. The large linear MR is induced in electron-dominated space-charge transport regime, where the magnetic ...

Shaping Ti3C2 MXene Nanospheres for Precision Near‐Infrared Photothermal Therapy

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
In this study, we report producing spherical MXenes via fs laser fragmentation of Ti3C2 flakes in liquid medium. The nanoparticles demonstrated pronounced light absorption and high photothermal conversion efficiencies of 68% and 63% under heating with NIR‐I and NIR‐II lasers, respectively.
