Self‐Cooling Molecular Spin Qudits

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A material made of [GdEr] molecular dimers can encode a qudit and perform as a magnetic refrigerant. Microwave resonant pulses coherently manipulate its 16 spin states, while direct demagnetization measurements cool the material and a device down to temperatures below 1 K.

Opportunities of Semiconducting Oxide Nanostructures as Advanced Luminescent Materials in Photonics

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
The review discusses the challenges of wide and ultrawide bandgap semiconducting oxides as a suitable material platform for photonics. They offer great versatility in terms of tuning microstructure, native defects, doping, anisotropy, and micro‐ and nano‐structuring. The review focuses on their light emission, light‐confinement in optical cavities, and

POM‐Based Water Splitting Catalyst Under Acid Conditions Driven by Its Assembly on Carbon Nanotubes

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A newly‐engineered POM‐based electrocatalyst incorporating non‐innocent counter cations exhibits fast kinetics for either the OER or HER under strongly acidic conditions (1 m H2SO4), depending on whether it is assembled on carbon nanotubes (1@CNT) or physically mixed with them (1/CNT). In water‐splitting tests using a two‐electrode setup, these systems

Formation of Black Silicon in a Process of Plasma Etching with Passivation in a SF6/O2 Gas Mixture

open access: yesNanomaterials
This article discusses a method for forming black silicon using plasma etching at a sample temperature range from −20 °C to +20 °C in a mixture of oxygen and sulfur hexafluoride.

One‐Dimensional Materials Supported in Two‐Dimensional Van der Waals Metal–Organic Frameworks with Optical Anisotropy Switching via Twist‐Engineering

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
We introduce a molecular strategy to assemble one‐dimensional (1D) materials into two‐dimensional (2D) van der Waals metal–organic frameworks (MOFs). Crystals of [FeX(pzX)(bpy)] (X = Cl, F) form anisotropic 2D layers that can be mechanically exfoliated into thin sheets.

Enhancing responsivity of silicon PIN photodiodes at 1064 nm via light trapping and geometry optimization: a simulation study

open access: yesFrontiers in Physics
Nd:YAG laser light detection at 1064 nm is widely used in applications requiring high-performance photodiodes to measure low light intensities. This study investigates the impact of light trapping and geometric variations on the responsivity of silicon ...
