A Magnetically Actuated Superhydrophobic Ratchet Surface for Droplet Manipulation
A water droplet dispensed on a superhydrophobic ratchet surface is formed into an asymmetric shape, which creates a Laplace pressure gradient due to the contact angle difference between two sides.

Design of experiment for the optimisation of deep reactive ion etching of silicon inserts for micro-fabrication [PDF]
The following paper describes a design of experiments investigation of the deep reactive of pillar structures on a silicon wafer. The etched wafers would subsequently be used as masters for the fabrication of nickel mould inserts for microinjection ...

Planar Solid‐State Nanopores Toward Scalable Nanofluidic Integration Based on CMOS Technology
We present a scalable silicon‐based fabrication strategy for planar solid‐state nanopores to enable their integration with complex nanofluidic systems. Prototype devices demonstrate normal voltage‐current characteristics, good noise performance, and appreciable streaming currents. Our CMOS‐compatible fabrication process offers precise geometric control

Texturing of the Silicon Substrate with Nanopores and Si Nanowires for Anti-reflecting Surfaces of Solar Cells [PDF]
The paper presents the prospects of obtaining a functional multi-layer anti-reflecting coating of the front surface of solar cells by texturing the surface of the silicon by electrochemical etching.

Diffusion of phosphorous in black silicon [PDF]
Black silicon is a promising texturing method for solar cells since it suppresses optical reflection in a broad spectral range. This relaxes the usual antireflection requirements on the coatings used for surface passivation of silicon. Fabrication of n-type emitters requires diffusion of phosphorous through the nanostructures of black silicon, which ...

The thermal diffusivity of MgO‐C refractories is highly sensitive to sample preparation and processing procedures. In this article, the effects of coking sequence, machining conditions, structural inhomogeneity, and graphite coating application on measurements using laser flash apparatus are systematically investigated.

Creep experiments at 900°C on coarse‐grained steel‐ceramic composites containing recycled magnesia reveal that higher ceramic volume fractions significantly enhance the creep resistance. Detailed EBSD investigations identify subgrain formation in the steel matrix as the dominant deformation mechanism.

Room temperature visible and near-infrared photoluminescence from black silicon has been observed. The black silicon is manufactured by shining femtosecond laser pulses on silicon wafers in air, which were later annealed in vacuum. The photoluminescence is quenched above 120 K due to thermalization and competing nonradiative recombination of the ...

High‐frequency (HF) welding of steel is limited by oxide inclusions that degrade weld quality. This study demonstrates, for the first time, the integration of a nonthermal Ar/H2 dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) plasma jet into HF welding. Local plasma treatment provides effective shielding and in‐situ oxide reduction, resulting in markedly fewer and ...

Manufacture and Compositional Analysis of Silicon Nitride Composites with Different Carbon Additions
Carbon black and graphite nano/micrograins and sintering additives (Al2O3 and Y2O3) were added to silicon nitride starting powder. These mixtures were mechanochemically activated several hours in a planetary type alumina ball-mill in order to achieve a ...
