BLACK AND WHITE LAHAR AS INORGANIC SUPPORT FOR THE IMMOBILIZATION OF YEAST INVERTASE
Volcanic ejecta or lahar can serve as an inorganic support for the immobilization of invertase. Pampanga and Bicol lahar samples were pretreated by ignition at 550oC for 5 hrs followed by concentrated hydrochloric acid treatment, activatedby reaction with aminopropyltriethoxysilane (APTS) and then covalently bound to invertase using glutaraldehyde as ...

This study uncovers an unusual RNAi pathway in the rhizarian pathogen Plasmodiophora brassicae. In the absence of Dicer, a Drosha‐like RNase III protein supports the biogenesis of predominant 21‐nt small RNAs, and two Argonaute proteins mediate small RNA‐guided silencing.

Single‐cell transcriptomics of soybean roots soon after rhizobial inoculation reveals epidermal and cortical cell‐specific programs and gene‐regulatory networks acting in symbiosis establishment. We identify an ethylene‐driven regulatory circuit involving WRKY6.3/6.4 transcription factors targeting select Nod19 genes that promotes infection‐thread ...

Subversion of Atypical Mucin Traps by a Spore‐Coat Effector Blocks Cellular Immunity in Drosophila
While the entomopathogenic fungus Metarhizium robertsii can evade insect humoral immunity, its subversion of cellular defenses is still elusive. We identify Eac1 as a spore‐coat protein essential for infecting drosophilids by targeting atypical mucins (Sgf1 and Sgf2), which can entrap spores in a gel matrix and thereby facilitate hemocyte encapsulation.

Exophiala Pneumonia Presenting with a Cough Productive of Black Sputum
Exophiala species are black, yeast-like molds that can cause subcutaneous cysts as well as disseminated disease. Isolated pneumonia due to Exophiala species is extremely uncommon.

Probing Electrocatalyst Design for Product Selectivity in CO2 Reduction
Selective CO2 electroreduction is controlled by catalyst structure, dynamic surface reconstruction, adsorbate interactions, and reaction microenvironment. This review summarizes Cu‐ and non‐Cu‐based catalysts, single‐atom and molecular systems, degradation pathways, and operando/computational strategies for steering CO2RR toward hydrocarbons ...
