Pioneering Insights into the Reaction Kinetics of Metastable Intermolecular Composites Based on Metal Fluorides: Virtually non‐existent condensed Phase Combustion Products and Ultra‐Efficient Reactivity

open access: yesAdvanced Science
As a typical representative of Metastable intermolecular composites (MICs), the energy release of nano‐thermites relying on aluminum‐oxygen reaction is limited by the formation of high boiling point condensed phase products.

Response Characteristics and Safety Criterion of Double-Arch Tunnel Under Blast-Induced Disturbance from New Tunnel Excavation

open access: yesApplied Sciences
Blast-induced vibrations from newly constructed tunnels may adversely affect adjacent existing tunnel structures. To ensure the safety of the existing tunnel, it is essential to investigate its dynamic response under blast disturbances.

Large‐scale bidirectional arrayed genetic screens identify OXR1 and EMC4 as modifiers of αSynuclein aggregation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Activation of the mitochondrial protein OXR1 increases pSyn129 αSynuclein aggregation by lowering ATP levels and altering mitochondrial membrane potential, particularly in response to MSA‐derived fibrils. In contrast, ablation of the ER protein EMC4 enhances autophagic flux and lysosomal clearance, broadly reducing α‐synuclein aggregates.

Fragmentation in small-scale confined blasting

open access: yes, 2011
Design of sub-level blasting rounds and optimisation has become more important now when the sizes of the blasting rings get larger. Sufficient fragmentation is one of the key factors, and in confined blasting as in sub-level caving, this influences the ...

Mechanical properties and energy dissipation law of saturated coal samples under dynamic loading

open access: yesMeikuang Anquan
To investigate the mechanical properties and energy variation characteristics of saturated coal samples under dynamic loading, a 50 mm diameter split Hopkinson rod device (SHPB) was used to conduct impact loading tests on both saturated and natural coal ...

Identifying gene expression signatures for risk stratification of postoperative adjuvant chemotherapy in colorectal cancer

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
A novel signature integrating genome‐wide analysis with clinical factors predicts recurrence in stage II colorectal cancer and enables a new risk stratification to guide postoperative adjuvant chemotherapy. Clinical risk stratification for postoperative recurrence in patients with pathological stage II (pStage II) colorectal cancer (CRC) is essential ...

Improved complete ensemble empirical mode decomposition with adaptive noise and composite multiscale permutation entropy for denoising blast vibration signal

open access: yesHeliyon
Monitoring the building blast vibration signal is an efficient way to determine the power of blast vibration hazards. Due to the harsh measurement environment, noise is inevitably introduced into the recorded signals.

Acute caffeine treatment protects the developing retina from ischemia‐induced cell death

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Caffeine reduces cell death in the developing retina under ischemia (OGD). This effect does not involve BDNF upregulation or antioxidant pathways (NRF2/VEGF). Neuroprotection occurs mainly through adenosine A2A receptor antagonism, decreasing glutamate release and excitotoxicity, highlighting caffeine's potential as an acute neuroprotective agent in ...

Lateral spreading mitigation in gravity quay walls backfilled with coral sand through electrolysis desaturation treatment

open access: yesScientific Reports
Quay walls constructed on hydraulically filled coral sand deposits face inevitable liquefaction-induced hazards during seismic events. For mitigation, electrolysis method can be employed as an induced partial saturation technique to improve the ...
