E2A selectively regulates TGF‐β–induced apoptosis in KRAS‐mutant non‐small cell lung cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Ability to induce apoptosis by TGF‐β is frequently lost in advanced lung adenocarcinoma despite intact TGF‐β signaling. We identify E2A as a mutant KRAS–dependent mediator of resistance to TGF‐β–induced apoptosis. TGF‐β induces E2A via SMAD3 in mutant KRAS cells, and E2A silencing restores apoptosis and enhances radiation response in cell lines ...

CD47 promotes mitogen‐activated protein kinase and epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition molecular programs to drive prometastatic phenotypes in non‐small cell lung cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Beyond its role in immune evasion, this study identified that CD47 drives tumor‐intrinsic signaling in non‐small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Transcriptomic profiling and functional studies revealed that CD47 regulates cell adhesion, migration, and metastasis through an ERK–EMT signaling axis.

Urban identity through quantifiable spatial attributes: coherence and dispersion of local identity through the automated comparative analysis of building block plans

open access: yes, 2008
This analysis investigates whether and to what degree quantifiable spatial attrib-utes, as expressed in plan representations, can capture elements related to the ex-perience of spatial identity.

KDM7A and KDM1A inhibition suppresses tumour promoting pathways in prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Treatment resistance is a major challenge for patients with advanced prostate cancer. This study examined an alternative approach to target the major prostate cancer‐promoting pathway by targeting epigenetic factors, whose levels are higher in tumours.

Acquisition of noun derivation in Estonian and Russian L1

open access: yesEesti Rakenduslingvistika Ühingu Aastaraamat, 2018
Acquisition of derivation is not a well-studied area in first language research and a comparative approach to the acquisition of derivation in different languages doesn’t exist.

Ylide Ligands as Building Blocks for Bioactive Group 11 Metal Complexes

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, 2018
AbstractThe reactivity of the phosphonium salt (cyanomethyl)triphenylphosphonium chloride and the ylide (triphenylphosphonio)cyanomethanide towards Group 11 metal complexes is described. Mononuclear neutral gold(I) and gold(III) complexes of the type [AuX{CH(CN)PPh3}] or [AuX3{CH(CN)PPh3}] and cationic derivatives such as [AuL{CH(CN)PPh3}]X have been ...

Symbiosis, Synergy and Modularity: Introducing the Reciprocal Synergy Symbiosis Algorithm

open access: yes, 2007
Symbiosis, the collaboration of multiple organisms from different species, is common in nature. A related phenomenon, symbiogenesis, the creation of new species through the genetic integration of symbionts, is a powerful alternative to crossover as a ...

Parameter Tuning for Scalable Multi-Resource Server Consolidation in Cloud Systems

open access: yesJournal of Communications Software and Systems, 2015
Infrastructure as a Service cloud providers are increasingly relying on scalable and efficient Virtual Machines (VMs) placement as the main solution for reducing unnecessarycosts and wastes of physical resources. However, thecontinuous growth of the size

Heterozygous loss‐of‐function alleles associate the conserved 3′‐5′ exoribonuclease EXOSC10 with hypersensitivity to the anticancer drug 5‐fluorouracil

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
EXOSC10, an essential nuclear RNA exosome‐associated 3′‐5′ exoribonuclease, is inhibited by the anticancer drug 5‐fluorouracil (5‐FU), and EXOSC10 depletion increases 5‐FU sensitivity. The colon‐cancer variant EXOSC10S402T, located in a proteolysis motif, is stable and nuclear but nonfunctional in vivo.

Cell‐cycle‐specific lesion evolution rather than inhibition of double‐strand‐break repair underpins cisplatin radiosensitization

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We analyze cisplatin–DNA adducts (CDAs) and double‐strand breaks (DSBs) in a cell‐cycle‐dependent manner. We find that CDAs form similarly across all cell cycle phases. DSBs arise only in S‐phase. CDAs might not directly impair DSB repair, but S‐phase DSB lesions evolve in the presence of CDAs and disrupt repair in G2, also causing radiosensitization ...
