A Comparative Analysis of Machine Learning Techniques for Muon Count in UHECR Extensive Air-Showers

open access: yesEntropy, 2020
The main goal of this work is to adapt a Physics problem to the Machine Learning (ML) domain and to compare several techniques to solve it. The problem consists of how to perform muon count from the signal registered by particle detectors which record a ...

Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.

Quasi-Elliptical Stub-Based Multi-Resonance Waveguide Filters With Low Manufacturing Complexity for mm-Wave Applications

open access: yesIEEE Journal of Microwaves, 2023
In this paper, the design and realization of quasi-elliptical waveguide filters with reduced manufacturing complexity are discussed. The filters are based on TE mode cavities, which are loaded with TM mode stubs.

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

A Building Block Approach to Genetic Programming for Rule Discovery

open access: yes, 2002
Genetic programming has recently been used successfully to extract knowledge in the form of IF-THEN rules. For these genetic programming approaches to knowledge extraction from data, individuals represent decision trees.

Evaporation-induced assembly of colloidal clusters into superclusters with nonconvex deltahedral geometry

open access: yesAIP Advances, 2018
Using small colloidal clusters with dumbbell, triplet, tetrahedral, octahedral geometry as elementary building blocks, we investigate the templated-assisted cluster-cluster aggregation into hierarchical clusters, namely superclusters, by means of Monte ...

Dicarboxylate-Bridged Ruthenium Complexes as Building Blocks for Molecular Nanostructures

open access: yesInorganic Chemistry, 2012
Ruthenium complexes with bridging dicarboxylate ligands were combined with 1,2-di-4-pyridylethylene (dpe), 2,4,6-tri-4-pyridyltriazine (4-tpt), or 2,4,6-tri-3-pyridyltriazine (3-tpt) to give a tetranuclear rectangle or hexanuclear coordination cages. The cages display a trigonal-prismatic geometry, as evidenced by single-crystal X-ray crystallography ...

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...
