Transport: blood and circulation
2017The blood system transports nutrients, oxygen, carbon dioxide and nitrogenous wastes; other functions include defence. Fish have a closed, single circulation in which blood is pumped by a contractile heart via a ventral aorta to the gills, then via the dorsal aorta to vessels supplying the tissues and organs, with a venous return to the heart.

Journal of the American Medical Association, 1959To the Editor:— We believe that the validity of blood volume determinations with use of radioiodinated serum albumin is well established provided proper precautions are taken to reduce technical error. In fact, Hlad and Tanz ( J. Lab. & Clin. Med. 52 :289-298 [Aug.] 1958) reported a standard error of ±2% in vivo!
