MOX Nanosensors to Detect Colorectal Cancer Relapses from Patient’s Blood at Three Years Follow-Up, and Gender Correlation

open access: yesBiosensors
Colorectal cancer represents 10% of all the annual tumors diagnosed worldwide, being often not timely diagnosed, because its symptoms are typically lacking or very mild.

Glimpse on Hemostatic Changes Produced By Plasmapheresis.

open access: yesمجلة كلية الطب, 2010
Background: Aphaeresis is a term that means to separate or to take away. The basic idea of aphaeresis is efficient removal of a circulating cellular blood component, either cells (Cytopheresis) or plasma solute (plasmapheresis, plasma exchange). Thus, the

Cell‐cycle‐specific lesion evolution rather than inhibition of double‐strand‐break repair underpins cisplatin radiosensitization

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We analyze cisplatin–DNA adducts (CDAs) and double‐strand breaks (DSBs) in a cell‐cycle‐dependent manner. We find that CDAs form similarly across all cell cycle phases. DSBs arise only in S‐phase. CDAs might not directly impair DSB repair, but S‐phase DSB lesions evolve in the presence of CDAs and disrupt repair in G2, also causing radiosensitization ...

The Impact of Polymorphonuclear Neutrophils on the Quality of Stored Cellular Blood Products

open access: yes, 1995
Background: Storage of blood affects all blood components. Polymorphonuclear neutrophils (PMNs) are considered the main culprits of the storage lesion. Their prestorage removal improves the quality of blood components.

Hijacking emergency granulopoiesis: Neutrophil ontogeny and reprogramming in cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Neutrophils are highly plastic innate immune cells; their functions in cancer extend beyond the tumour microenvironment. This Review summarises current understanding of neutrophil maturation and heterogeneity and highlights tumour‐induced granulopoiesis as a systemic programme that expands immature, immunosuppressive neutrophils via tumour‐derived ...

Systematic Quantification of Superficial Blood Flow in Near Infrared Spectroscopy Brain Computer Interfaces in a Pediatric Context

open access: yes, 2017
Brain-computer interfaces (BCIs) have been developed as an access pathway for individuals who present as locked-in, but only in adults. Near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) signals have been suspected to be influenced by superficial blood flow signals ...

Effects of erector spinae plane block on intraoperative blood pressure variability, blood loss, and postoperative pain in transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion

open access: yesScientific Reports
Erector spinae plane block (ESPB) improves recovery and reduces opioid use, while intraoperative blood pressure variability (IBPV) negatively impacts postoperative outcomes.

Transcriptional profiling of circulating extracellular vesicles from prebiopsy prostate cancer patients

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
RNA profiling of circulating extracellular vesicles (EVs) from blood samples of men undergoing prostate biopsy identifies transcripts associated with clinically significant prostate cancer. Integrative analysis with public tumor datasets links EV‐derived gene signatures to tumor stage and progression‐free survival, highlighting CASP3, XRCC2, and RIT1 ...

Metastasis on pause: How dormant tumor cells stay hidden within the tumor microenvironment and evade immune surveillance

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dormant cancer cells can hide in distant organs for years, evading treatment and the immune system. This review highlights how signals from the surrounding tissue and immune environment keep these cells inactive or trigger their reawakening. Understanding these mechanisms may help develop therapies to eliminate or control dormant cells and prevent ...

Subcutaneous angiomyolipoma in a bichon frise dog. Clinical case

open access: yesRevista Científica
Angiomyolipoma located on the caudal part of the abdominal wall was reported in a 15–year–old femal bichon frise dog weighing 17 kg. A radiographic examination was performed followed by a histological examination of the mass, which revealed a benign ...
