Complement Component 3 Negatively Regulates Antibody Response by Modulation of Red Blood Cell Antigen

open access: yes, 2018
Red blood cell (RBC) alloimmunization can make it difficult to procure compatible RBCs for future transfusion, directly leading to increased morbidity and mortality in transfusion-dependent patients.

A novel quinazolinone insulin receptor inhibitor and its synergy with an EGFR inhibitor in glucose‐driven glioblastoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The novel styrylquinazolinone‐based molecule W1B effectively suppresses glioblastoma by inhibiting IGF1R and EGFR. In high‐glucose microenvironments driving tumor resistance, W1B acts synergistically with the EGFR inhibitor dacomitinib. This combination safely blocks compensatory survival signaling in zebrafish xenograft models. Showcasing promising in

Loss of proton‐sensing TDAG8 increases tumor progression in mouse models of colon cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Loss of the pH‐sensing receptor TDAG8 accelerates colorectal cancer progression in mice. Animals lacking TDAG8 expression had increased tumor growth, DNA damage, and recruitment of tumor‐associated immune cells, including macrophages, neutrophils, and monocytes.

Beyond Direct Fibrinolysis: Novel Approaches to Thrombolysis

open access: yesPharmaceuticals
Fibrinolysis is a natural component of hemostasis in which a no-longer-needed clot is gradually dissolved to restore blood flow. Under pathological thrombotic conditions, this process can be pharmacologically enhanced to promote clot removal.

Promiscuous stimulation of HSP70 ATPase activity by parasite‐derived J‐domains

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum exports three highly homologous yet functionally divergent J‐domain proteins into human erythrocytes. Here, we show that J‐domains isolated from all three proteins effectively stimulate the ATPase activity of both endogenous host and exported parasite HSP70 chaperones.

The key role of nitric oxide in hypoxia: hypoxic vasodilation and energy supply-demand matching [PDF]

open access: yes
Significance: a mismatch between energy supply and demand induces tissue hypoxia with the potential to cause cell death and organ failure. Whenever arterial oxygen concentration is reduced, increases in blood flow - 'hypoxic vasodilation' - occur in an ...

Screening and epitope characterization of Nidogen‐2‐specific nanobodies

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Camel immunization and phage display were employed to generate high‐affinity VHH nanobodies against Nidogen‐2. After library construction, biopanning, ELISA screening, sequencing, and recombinant expression, selected nanobodies were purified and characterized, leading to the preliminary exploration of a nanobody‐based sandwich ELISA for specific ...

The effects of low-sodium peritoneal dialysis fluids on blood pressure, thirst and volume status

open access: yes, 2009
Background. Poor ultrafiltration is associated with worse outcomes in peritoneal dialysis (PD) patients. This might in part reflect problems associated with salt and water excess.

Remodeling of the circRNA Landscape in Myocardial Infarction Integrates Nuclear Regulation, DNA Damage Response, and Cardiomyocyte Structural Pathways

open access: yesBiomolecules
Plasma circular RNAs (circRNAs) are stable RNA molecules found in blood, which makes them potential noninvasive biomarkers for acute myocardial infarction (MI).
