Quality analysis of blood components obtained by automated buffy-coat layer removal with a top & bottom system (Optipress (R)II).

open access: yesHaematologica, 2000
There are Council of Europe recommendations for the quality of blood components. We analyzed the quality of blood components processed by a top & bottom system (Optipress((R)) II), the routine method used in our blood bank, to test whether the components reached the recommended quality.Blood was collected in triple CPD-SAGM bags (Optipac((R)) Baxter ...

DNA methylation and expression of MAPRE3 affect overall survival of early‐stage non‐small cell lung cancer patients

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Both cg12821679MAPRE3 methylation and MAPRE3 expression are significantly associated with overall survival (OS) of non‐small cell lung cancer. Meanwhile, MAPRE3 expression significantly modified the effect of smoking cessation on OS. Smoking cessation benefits OS merely for patients with high MAPRE3 expression.

Denoising and Principal Component Analysis of Amplified Raman Spectra from Red Blood Cells with Added Silver Nanoparticles

open access: yes, 2018
Incubated erythrocytes with and without silver nanoparticles (AgNP) were analyzed by Raman spectroscopy, resulting in two Raman spectra datasets. AgNP were added to red blood cells (RBC) in order to enhance the Raman signals.

Stimulator of interferon genes agonist augmented antitumor immunity of osimertinib in Egfr‐mutated lung cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Combining osimertinib with the STING agonist ADU‐S100 activates innate and adaptive immunity to overcome the non‐inflamed microenvironment of Egfr‐mutant lung cancer. This combination increases NK and CD8+ T‐cell infiltration, associated with activation of the STING‐IRF3 pathway and local immunogenic cell death.

Functional activities of C-reactive protein on neutrophils [PDF]

open access: yes
C-reactive protein (CRP) is a member of the pentraxin family which opsonises S. pneumoniae through its binding to phosphorylcholine. In addition, CRP binds to Fcγ receptors: FcγRI with high affinity and, probably, FcγRIIA with lower affinity.

Flow Enabled Target Capture Halbach‐based magnetic enrichment increases circulating tumor cell capture from blood in metastatic cancer patients

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pair‐wise comparison of the CellSearch and FETCH enrichment technologies for circulating tumor cells (CTCs) from metastatic breast, prostate, and small cell lung cancer patients shows an increased capture of CTCs using FETCH enrichment. The clinical implementation of circulating tumor cells (CTCs) as a predictive tool for therapy efficacy in the ...

The Effects of the Endothelial Glycocalyx on Blood Flow

open access: yes, 2020
The glycocalyx is an essential biological component in humans. It is a thin layer of anionic material that lines endothelial cells and is composed of proteoglycans and glycoproteins.

Image_1_Complement Component 3 Negatively Regulates Antibody Response by Modulation of Red Blood Cell Antigen.tif

open access: yes, 2018
Red blood cell (RBC) alloimmunization can make it difficult to procure compatible RBCs for future transfusion, directly leading to increased morbidity and mortality in transfusion-dependent patients.

Finding novel vulnerabilities of hypomorphic BRCA1 alleles

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Synthetic lethality screens performed to identify novel vulnerabilities often model complete gene loss, thereby overlooking patient‐derived hypomorphic mutations. In this study, we have performed genome‐wide CRISPR screens on BRCA1 hypomorphic mutations, showing BRCA1I26A behaves like wild‐type, while BRCA1R1699Q mimics deficiency. Furthermore, we have
