There is an unmet need in metastatic breast cancer patients to monitor therapy response in real time. In this study, we show how a noninvasive and affordable strategy based on sequencing of plasma samples with longitudinal tracking of tumour fraction paired with a statistical model provides valuable information on treatment response in advance of the ...

DeepClean -- self-supervised artefact rejection for intensive care waveform data using deep generative learning [PDF]
Waveform physiological data is important in the treatment of critically ill patients in the intensive care unit. Such recordings are susceptible to artefacts, which must be removed before the data can be re-used for alerting or reprocessed for other clinical or research purposes.

Germline variants in CDKN2A wild‐type melanoma prone families
Among melanoma‐prone families, wild‐type for CDKN2A and CDK4, some have pathogenic variants in genes not usually linked to melanoma. Furthermore, rare XP‐related variants and variants in MC1R are enriched in such families. Germline pathogenic variants in CDKN2A are well established as an underlying cause of familial malignant melanoma. While pathogenic

Quantification of Healthy Red Blood Cell Removal and Preferential Invasion of Reticulocytes in Macaca mulatta during Plasmodium cynomolgi Infection [PDF]
We derived an ordinary differential equation model to capture the disease dynamics during blood-stage malaria. The model was directly derived from an earlier age-structured partial differential equation model. The original model was simplified due to experimental constraints.

Dual targeting of AKT and mTOR using MK2206 and RAD001 reduces tumor burden in an intracardiac colon cancer circulating tumor cell xenotransplantation model. Analysis of AKT isoform‐specific knockdowns in CTC‐MCC‐41 reveals differentially regulated proteins and phospho‐proteins by liquid chromatography coupled mass spectrometry. Circulating tumor cells

The use of ion exchange resins in the isolation of blodd group A-specific substance from hog gastric mucin [PDF]
Ion exchange resins (1) have been used in the investigation of A substance hydrolysates (2), but apparently no attempt has been made to determine whether they can be profitably used in the isolation or purification of undegraded A substance [1] from ...

Inhibitor of DNA binding‐1 is a key regulator of cancer cell vasculogenic mimicry
Elevated expression of transcriptional regulator inhibitor of DNA binding 1 (ID1) promoted cancer cell‐mediated vasculogenic mimicry (VM) through regulation of pro‐angiogenic and pro‐cancerous genes (e.g. VE‐cadherin (CDH5), TIE2, MMP9, DKK1). Higher ID1 expression also increased metastases to the lung and the liver.

Alectinib resistance in ALK+ NSCLC depends on treatment sequence and EML4‐ALK variants. Variant 1 exhibited off‐target resistance after first‐line treatment, while variant 3 and later lines favored on‐target mutations. Early resistance involved off‐target alterations, like MET and NF2, while on‐target mutations emerged with prolonged therapy.

Functional Principal Component Analysis for Truncated Data [PDF]
Functional principal component analysis (FPCA) is a key tool in the study of functional data, driving both exploratory analyses and feature construction for use in formal modeling and testing procedures. However, existing methods for FPCA do not apply when functional observations are truncated, e.g., the measurement instrument only supports recordings ...

Distributed self-regulation of living tissue. Effects of nonideality [PDF]
Self-regulation of living tissue as an example of self-organization phenomena in active fractal systems of biological, ecological, and social nature is under consideration. The characteristic feature of these systems is the absence of any governing center and, thereby, their self-regulation is based on a cooperative interaction of all the elements. The
