Proximal ureteral fibroepithelial polyp with secondary renal atrophy in a dog (Canis lupus familiaris)

open access: yesVeterinary Record Case Reports, Volume 14, Issue 2, May 2026.
Abstract A 12‐year‐old, male intact, Papillon dog was presented following trauma from a motor vehicle accident. On arrival, the dog was laterally recumbent with neurological dysfunction (modified Glasgow coma scale 12) and multiple injuries, including right hip luxation and suspected haemorrhage.

Short‐Term Dietary Intervention Alters Physiological Profiles Relevant to Ageing

open access: yesAging Cell, Volume 25, Issue 5, May 2026.
A 4‐week controlled dietary intervention in older adults reduced KDM‐derived δAge, especially with high‐carbohydrate and semi‐vegetarian diets, indicating rapid shifts in age‐related physiological profiles. These changes likely reflect coordinated, system‐wide physiological adaptations to dietary intake, with potential implications for longer‐term ...

Environmental Enrofloxacin Exposure as a Modifiable Driver of Mitochondria‐Mediated Intestinal Aging and Barrier Dysfunction

open access: yesAging Cell, Volume 25, Issue 5, May 2026.
Environmentally relevant enrofloxacin accelerates intestinal aging by impairing epithelial mitochondrial function, disrupting barrier integrity, and reshaping the gut microbiota. Mitochondrial restoration with pyrroloquinoline quinone alleviates hypoxia, inflammation, and gut damage.

Correlation Analysis of 24‐h Minimum Heart Rate Levels and Deceleration Capacity of Heart Rate in Patients With Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus Complicated With Essential Hypertension

open access: yesAnnals of Noninvasive Electrocardiology, Volume 31, Issue 3, May 2026.
Sex‐specific 24‐hour minimum heart rate (MHR) stratification in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus and essential hypertension (T2DM‐EH). Three key findings are shown from subgroup analysis: (1) In the normal MHR group (Group B), advancing age independently predicts reduced deceleration capacity (DC) in both sexes.

Sodium butyrate ameliorates renal tubular lipid accumulation through a protein phosphatase 2A/transcription factor EB axis in diabetic nephropathy

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, Volume 183, Issue 9, Page 1901-1919, May 2026.
Abstract Background and Purpose Extensive evidence indicates that lipid accumulation causes renal tubular injury, which further contributes to diabetic nephropathy (DN) progression. Short‐chain fatty acids (SCFAs) play an important role in the maintenance of cellular metabolic health.

Targeting the noradrenergic‐metabolic axis: A new strategy for sugar‐induced depression subtypes

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, Volume 183, Issue 9, Page 2099-2122, May 2026.
Abstract Background and Purpose Lifestyle is closely related to major depressive disorder (MDD). Given the growing focus on the impact of diet on mental health, this study examined how dietary habits affect the pathophysiology of MDD. Experimental Approach Health check‐up data were analysed. Mice received sucrose under chronic unpredictable mild stress
