Genetic Variability of Bovine Leukemia Virus: Evidence of Dual Infection, Recombination and Quasi-Species

open access: yesPathogens
We have characterized the intrahost genetic variation in the bovine leukemia virus (BLV) by examining 16 BLV isolates originating from the Western Siberia–Tyumen and South Ural–Chelyabinsk regions of Russia.

Supporting Responsive Practice: Training Dietitians to Meet Clients' Interactional Needs

open access: yesJournal of Human Nutrition and Dietetics, Volume 39, Issue 3, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Introduction Patient‐centered counseling approaches tend to emphasize what practitioners are expected to do, providing limited guidance on how to respond to client contributions in real‐time interactions. This study aimed to explore the value of a dietitian–client interaction (DCI) training program to enhance dietitians' awareness of client ...

Protective Effects of Vaccination with Bovine Leukemia Virus (BLV) Tax DNA Against BLV Infection in Sheep

open access: yesJournal of Veterinary Medical Science, 2003
A DNA vaccination trial was performed on sheep to determine whether vaccination with bovine leukemia virus (BLV) transactivator Tax DNA is effective against BLV infection. Immunization was carried out with cationic liposomes containing the Tax-expressing plasmid DNA and subsequently all sheep were challenged with BLV.

Real‐World Outcomes of Opti‐Hep‐D: An Innovative, Multicentre and Multidisciplinary Program Improving Hepatitis D Cascade of Care

open access: yesLiver International, Volume 46, Issue 6, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Background and Aim Hepatitis D virus (HDV) infection remains underdiagnosed, and real‐world data on screening and linkage to care are limited. We assessed the implementation of Opti‐Hep‐D, a publicly funded initiative for HDV management in the Spanish region of Catalonia.

The Impacts of Pensions on Older People's Socio‐Spatial Care Relations as They Age in Networks in Rural Lesotho

open access: yesPopulation, Space and Place, Volume 32, Issue 4, May 2026.
ABSTRACT Social networks within Southern Africa's rural communities are often highly interconnected through kin relations. Research has demonstrated that historically older people age in place within kin networks, typically in multi‐generational households, which are integral to their ageing experiences, such as through intergenerational contracts ...

Highly specific inhibition of leukaemia virus membrane fusion by interaction of peptide antagonists with a conserved region of the coiled coil of envelope

open access: yesRetrovirology, 2008
Background Human T-cell leukaemia virus (HTLV-1) and bovine leukaemia virus (BLV) entry into cells is mediated by envelope glycoprotein catalyzed membrane fusion and is achieved by folding of the transmembrane glycoprotein (TM) from a rod-like pre ...

Silent pressure: Unveiling spinal lymphoma in horses and its parallels to other species

open access: yesEquine Veterinary Education, Volume 38, Issue 5, Page 231-234, May 2026.
Summary Though the nervous system is an uncommon location for lymphoma, the disease should remain a differential diagnosis in some cases of ataxia in equids. Diagnosis of lymphoma can be challenging, although a combination of cytology, histopathology and immunophenotyping can aid in definitive diagnosis and therefore more accurately guide treatment and

BLV-p24 expression in BLV infected cattle and detection of BLV-p24 receptors in cattle afflicted with tumorous leukosis in vivo.

open access: yesActa virologica, 1990
Noncultivated and short-term cultivated blood leukocytes of BLV-infected cattle both with and without tumorous leukosis have been investigated for BLV-p24 antigen expression and for their capacity to bind BLV-p24 antigen. In animals with persistent lymphocytosis using cell extracts of 3-6 X 10(8) non-short-term cultivated blood leukocytes, BLV-p24 ...

Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) for detection of BLV proviruses - useful tool to complement BLV diagnostics?

open access: yes, 1998
A typical infection with bovine leukemia virus (BLV) induces a permanent antibody (Ab) response with high titers against BLV-antigens. In the last few years atypical courses of infection with low or transient BLV-Ab-titers or even lack of any detectable ...
