BNCT for primary synovial sarcoma
Applied Radiation and Isotopes, 2021Synovial sarcoma is a rare tumor requiring new treatment methods. A 46-year-old woman with primary monophasic synovial sarcoma in the left thigh involving the sciatic nerve, declining surgery because of potential dysfunction of the affected limbs, received two courses of BNCT. The tumor thus reduced was completely resected with no subsequent recurrence.

Spatial characterization of BNCT beams
Applied Radiation and Isotopes, 2004The space distribution of the epithermal neutron flux was determined for the epithermal neutron beams of several NCT facilities in USA (FCB at MIT), Europe (HFR at JRC, Petten; FiR at VTT, Espoo; LVR-15 at NRI, Rez) and Japan (JRR-4 at JAERI, Tokai).

BNCT Project in Czechoslovakia
1989In Czechoslovakia, a multidisciplinary research group for BNCT of human brain gliomas has been constituted in 1980. Mercaptoborane compound has been synthesized suitable for clinical use. The configuration of a thermal neutron beam with appropriate parameters has been created using the 10 MW VVR-S research reactor and proved experimentally.

Boron-containing nucleosides are attractive agents for BNCT1 because they may be (1) taken up selectively into tumors due to the high mitotic rate of tumor cells vs. normal cells, (2) intracellularly converted to the corresponding nucleotides through phosphorylation by appropriate enzymes such as TK1 or dCK, and (3) possibly incorporated into tumor ...

Boron Neutron Capture Therapy-BNCT, constitutes an experimental form of a biochemically rather than a physically targeted type of radiotherapy and is mostly used in the treatment of high grade gliomas, such as GBM (Glioblastoma Multiforme). BNCT therapeutic effectiveness is based on two crucial steps: the selective accumulation of 10B, a ...

Some portion of the radiation dose received by a patient during BNCT consists of primary and secondary gammas. The biological effect of that portion of the dose will depend upon the time history of the delivered dose. The well-known models for relating time-dose effects to clinical experience, principally those of Orton1 and Ellis2 are of questionable ...
