CD133 Shapes Extracellular Vesicle Cargo and Angiogenic Function in Basal‐Like Triple‐Negative Breast Cancer

open access: yesJournal of Extracellular Vesicles, Volume 15, Issue 6, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Extracellular vesicles (EVs) are central mediators of tumour‐stroma communication, yet the mechanisms governing their biogenesis and functional cargo remain poorly understood. Here, we identify CD133 (Prominin‐1), selectively expressed in basal‐like triple‐negative breast cancer (BL‐TNBC) cells, acts as a key organizer of EV production and ...

Different approaches to bone densitometry

open access: yes, 2000
From 1990 to 2000, several effective new treatments were introduced for the prevention of osteoporotic fractures; these treatments were proven effective in large, international, clinical trials.

Trabecular bone densitometry using interactive image analysis

open access: yes, 1991
Interactive image analysis is a novel application of digital image processing to the densitometry of trabecular bone. Briefly, the exposed surfaces of bleached slices of bone are illuminated so that the trabecular tips are bright in relation to the ...

Increased Brown Adipose Tissue Thermogenesis in Phenylketonuria

open access: yesMedComm, Volume 7, Issue 6, June 2026.
In phenylketonuria (PKU), elevated phenylalanine (Phe) increases hepatic fibroblast growth factor 21 (FGF21) and thyroid hormones, enhancing brown adipose tissue (BAT) thermogenesis in patients. Central FGF21 reproduces this phenotype in rodents via reduced hypothalamic AMP‐activated protein kinase (AMPK) activity in the ventromedial nucleus of the ...

Auditing bone densitometry and fractures in children with chronic disease

open access: yes, 2008
n a retrospective analysis of bone densitometry scans performed in an audit of 576 children with chronic disease, lean-mass-adjusted bone mineral content (BMC) for the total body and the lumbar spine was marginally lower in children with fractures ...

Loss of Brain‐Derived Estrogen Is Associated With Sex‐ and Age‐Dependent Alterations in Memory, Affective Behavior, and Hippocampal Extracellular Matrix Gene Expression

open access: yesAging Cell, Volume 25, Issue 6, June 2026.
Age, sex, and estrogen loss are widely recognized risk factors for Alzheimer's disease. Here, we show that brain‐specific aromatase knockout (bArKO) and the resulting estrogen loss lead to memory impairment, reduced social interaction, and extracellular environment dysregulation selectively in aged female mice, but not in young female or male mice ...

The Effects of Early Postnatal Alcohol Exposure on Bone Molecular Composition in a Mouse Model

open access: yesAlcohol, Clinical and Experimental Research, Volume 50, Issue 6, June 2026.
Early postnatal alcohol exposure was associated with long‐term changes in adult bone molecular composition and increased CTX‐I, indicating persistent effects on skeletal biology. Overlap with gavage‐related changes highlights the need to distinguish alcohol‐specific effects from procedural influences.
