Tumor mutational burden as a determinant of metastatic dissemination patterns

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study performed a comprehensive analysis of genomic data to elucidate whether metastasis in certain organs share genetic characteristics regardless of cancer type. No robust mutational patterns were identified across different metastatic locations and cancer types.

TRAIL‐PEG‐Apt‐PLGA nanosystem as an aptamer‐targeted drug delivery system potential for triple‐negative breast cancer therapy using in vivo mouse model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aptamers are used both therapeutically and as targeting agents in cancer treatment. We developed an aptamer‐targeted PLGA–TRAIL nanosystem that exhibited superior therapeutic efficacy in NOD/SCID breast cancer models. This nanosystem represents a novel biotechnological drug candidate for suppressing resistance development in breast cancer.

Deep neural network based artificial intelligence assisted diagnosis of bone scintigraphy for cancer bone metastasis

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2020
Bone scintigraphy (BS) is one of the most frequently utilized diagnostic techniques in detecting cancer bone metastasis, and it occupies an enormous workload for nuclear medicine physicians.

Subtype‐specific enhancer RNAs define transcriptional regulators and prognosis in breast cancers

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study employed machine learning methodologies to perform the subtype‐specific classification of RNA‐seq data sets, which are mapped on enhancers from TCGA‐derived breast cancer patients. Their integration with gene expression (referred to as ProxCReAM eRNAs) and chromatin accessibility profiles has the potential to identify lineage‐specific and ...

Immune mediated support of metastasis: Implication for bone invasion

open access: yesCancer Communications
Bone is a common organ affected by metastasis in various advanced cancers, including lung, breast, prostate, colorectal, and melanoma. Once a patient is diagnosed with bone metastasis, the patient's quality of life and overall survival are significantly ...

SMAD3/SP1 complex‐mediated constitutive active loop between lncRNA PCAT7 and TGF‐β signaling promotes prostate cancer bone metastasis

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, 2020
Bone metastasis is associated with cancer‐related death in patients with prostate cancer (PCa). Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) play critical roles in tumor progression of PCa. Nevertheless, the biological function of lncRNAs in PCa bone metastasis remains

COMP–PMEPA1 axis promotes epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition in breast cancer cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study reveals that cartilage oligomeric matrix protein (COMP) promotes epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition (EMT) in breast cancer. We identify PMEPA1 (protein TMEPAI) as a novel COMP‐binding partner that mediates EMT via binding to the TSP domains of COMP, establishing the COMP–PMEPA1 axis as a key EMT driver in breast cancer.

The Endosteal Niche in Breast Cancer Bone Metastasis

open access: yesFrontiers in Oncology, 2020
The establishment of bone metastasis remains one of the most frequent complications of patients suffering from advanced breast cancer. Patients with bone metastases experience high morbidity and mortality caused by excessive, tumor-induced and osteoclast-
