A Circuit of Mechanically Regulated Transcription Factors Balances Regenerative and Fibrotic Memory of Mesenchymal Stromal Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Producing MSCs on rigid culture substrates induces a scar‐making phenotype, jeapordizing therapeutic success. ‘Tissue‐soft’ surfaces prevent MSC fibrogenesis and preserve regenerative traits. An epigenetic network, driven by HOXA11 and SALL1, maintains ‘soft memory’ by keeping chromatin open in relaxed MSCs, promoting anti‐fibrotic programs.

Micropatterning biomineralization with immobilized mother of pearl proteins

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2021
In response to the drawbacks of autograft donor-site morbidity and bone morphogenetic protein type 2 (BMP2) carcinogenesis and ectopic bone formation, there has been an increased research focus towards developing alternatives capable of achieving spatial

Engineering Approaches to Modify Immunomodulatory Functions of Mesenchymal Stromal Cells (MSCs): Tissue Regeneration and Clinical Application

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) show promise for treating immune‐related disorders through immunomodulation and tissue regeneration. This review gives a brief overview of current clinical approval of MSC therapies. It also discussed how bioengineering, including genetic modification, biomaterial delivery, extracellular vesicles, and iPSC‐derived MSCs,

ALK1 controls hepatic vessel formation, angiodiversity, and angiocrine functions in hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia of the liver

open access: yesHepatology, EarlyView., 2022
Hepatic endothelial Alk1 signaling protects from development of vascular malformations while maintaining organ‐specific endothelial differentiation and angiocrine portmanteau of the names Wingless and Int‐1 signaling. Abstract Background and Aims In hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia (HHT), severe liver vascular malformations are associated with ...

Bone morphogenetic protein-7: Review of signalling and efficacy in fracture healing

open access: yesJournal of Orthopaedic Translation, 2016
Bone morphogenetic proteins (BMPs) are a group of signalling molecules that belong to the transforming growth factor-β superfamily of proteins. Initially identified for their ability to induce bone formation, recent advances in the understanding of ...

The bone morphogenetic proteins antagonist noggin inhibits membranous ossification

open access: yes, 2001
Bone morphogenetic proteins (BMPs) are expressed and secreted during fracture repair. Although they are likely to be required for this process, little is known about their physiological role in bone regeneration.

Bamboo‐Like Whiskers‐Reinforced Bioceramics Accelerate Large Segmental Bone Regeneration via Dual Modulation of Type‐H Vessels and Osteoinduction

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The graphical abstract image of bamboo‐like whisker‐reinforced Ca‐P bioceramics accelerating large segmental bone regeneration. ABSTRACT Regenerative repair of segmental bone defect remains a major clinical challenge. The conventional mental implants suffer from mechanical strength mismatch and long‐term foreign bodies presence.

AIF1+CSF1R+ MSCs, induced by TNF‐α, act to generate an inflammatory microenvironment and promote hepatocarcinogenesis

open access: yesHepatology, EarlyView., 2022
Mesenchymal stem cells subset, educated by TNF‐α, are involved to generate inflammatory microenvironment and promote hepatocarcinogenesis Abstract Background and Aims Increasing evidence suggests that mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) home to injured local tissues and the tumor microenvironment in the liver.

Bone Morphogenetic Proteins and Bone Derived Growth Factors

open access: yes, 1993
SummaryRecent studies suggest that local control of bone homeostatic and reparative mechanisms is most likely attributable to the interrelated function of a number of bone morphogenetic proteins (BMP) and bone derived growth factors.

The use of structural and non structural bone grafts and substitutes in osteotomies and arthrodesis of the hindfoot and ankle [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Introduction: Hindfoot fusions and osteotomies implicate the decision whether to use an autologous bone graft or an osteoconductive or –inductive substitute material in order to promote bony union and/or to support the correction of an additional ...
