Influence of Hypoxia on a Biomaterial Model of the Bone Marrow Perivascular Niche
Hypoxia is a key factor in bone marrow physiology and hematopoietic stem cell behavior. Lower oxygen tension influences the secretion of vasculature‐derived hematopoietic regulatory factors and alters hematopoietic cell behavior in a conditioned medium hydrogel model of bone marrow. Cyclosporin A is used to mitigate normoxic stress during hematopoietic

Autophagy: regulating the seesaw of bone–fat balance
The interrelationship between bone and fat can be described as a seesaw in bone homeostasis, in which both osteogenesis and adipogenesis occur in a delicate balance.

A Bio‐Inspired Perspective on Materials Sustainability
This perspective discusses natural materials as inspiration for sustainable engineering designs and the processing of materials. First, circularity, longevity, parsimony, and activity are presented as essential material paradigms. The perspective then uses many examples of natural and technical materials to introduce principles such as oligo ...

Protein‐Like Polymers Targeting Keap1/Nrf2 as Therapeutics for Myocardial Infarction
We describe a Keap1 targeting protein‐like polymer (PLP) which activates Nrf2, an important cytoprotective transcription factor for relieving myocardial infarction‐induced oxidative stress. This PLP increases cell survival in vitro in multiple relevant cardiac cell types and elicits pro‐reparative responses, improving cardiac function in a preclinical ...

Biomimetic Dynamics of Nanoscale Groove and Ridge Topography for Stem Cell Regulation
Dynamic nanoscale groove‐ridge structures are engineered by flexibly conjugating RGD‐magnetic nanoparticles to nanogroove templates with variable groove widths at the molecular scale. Magnetic control enables cyclic switching between nanoscale groove and ridge states that modulates ligand accessibility of cellular integrins.

Subchondral bone remodelling in osteoarthritis
Subchondral bone remodelling is an integral part of osteoarthritis and involves the development of subchondral sclerosis seen on plain imaging, along with osteophyte formation. The development of these changes is due to persistent abnormal mechanical stresses which create a cellular and biomolecular response to microfractures in the subchondral bone ...
