Central Control of Bone Remodelling
Journal of Neuroendocrinology, 2005The discovery that the brain controls bone remodelling has provided a new paradigm for our understanding of bone biology. This review summarises the genetic, molecular and physiological bases for the central control of bone remodelling and discusses the future directions of this new research field of neuroskeletal biology.

Bone remodeling and piezoelectricity — II
Journal of Biomechanics, 1973Abstract It is assumed that the surface aspects of bone remodeling is governed, at least in part, by the piezoelectric polarization produced when the bone is deformed. Bone is considered homogenious and anisotropic with a material axis of symmetry. The model presented is based on four postulates: 1. 1.

The physiological maintenance of bone mass is ensured by bone tissue renewal, allowing old bone tissue to be replaced by an equivalent mass of bone matrix. After mechanical or hormonal stress activation, a phase of resorption by osteoclasts occurs, followed by a phase of bone formation by osteoblasts. Among the multiple factors involved in osteoblastic
