High dose teriparatide (rPTH1-34) therapy increases callus volume and enhances radiographic healing at 8-weeks in a massive canine femoral allograft model. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2017
Small animal studies have demonstrated significant high-dose recombinant parathyroid hormone1-34 (rPTH1-34) effects on intercalary allograft healing. Towards a human adjuvant therapy to decrease non-unions, we evaluated rPTH1-34 safety and efficacy in a ...

The First Healed Bite Mark and Embedded Tooth in the Snout of a Middle Permian Gorgonopsian (Synapsida: Therapsida)

open access: yesFrontiers in Ecology and Evolution, 2021
Despite their significance for paleobiological interpretations, bite marks have been rarely reported in non-mammalian therapsids (NMT). Here we describe, for the first time, the occurrence of a tooth embedded in the snout of a gorgonopsian.

Alloxan-induced diabetes delays repair in a rat model of closed tibial fracture [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
A closed fracture was performed on the left tibia of 3-month-old Wistar rats weighing 250 to 350 g that were either healthy (N = 24) or made diabetic with alloxan (N = 24) to investigate the effect of alloxan-induced diabetes on the course of bone ...

Biodegradable Zinc‐Based Alloys for Guided Bone Regeneration Membranes: Feasibility, Current Status, and Future Prospects

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Recent research has shown that biodegradable metals based on zinc (Zn) may be used as guided bone regeneration (GBR) membrane materials. This study examines their viability from the standpoints of material science and biology, reports on the state of research on Zn‐based GBR membranes, and suggests specific development plans based on the potential and ...

Modulation of fixation stiffness from flexible to stiff in a rat model of bone healing

open access: yesActa Orthopaedica, 2017
Background and purpose — Constant fixator stiffness for the duration of healing may not provide suitable mechanical conditions for all stages of bone repair.

The Sirt1‐Piezo1 Axis Promotes Bone Formation and Repair in Mice

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Piezo1 upregulates in cartilage callus during bone repair, where its deletion impairs ossification and healing in mice, while activation enhances these processes. Sirt1 positively regulates Piezo1 expression and activity to promote osteogenesis and bone repair in mice.
