Cathepsin L in cancer: Context‐dependent functions, microenvironmental regulation and translational opportunities

open access: yesClinical and Translational Discovery, Volume 6, Issue 5, October 2026.
Cathepsin L (CTSL) acts as a context‐dependent facilitator of tumour progression rather than a universal oncogenic driver. CTSL's pro‐tumorigenic functions are critically evaluated alongside its inherent biochemical constraints and family‐wide redundancy. CTSL‐related biology may provide translational opportunities in selected contexts.

Nitrogen‐Based Bisphosphonate Use and Risk of Cancer in Women Aged 50 Years and Older: A National Data Linkage Study

open access: yesInternational Journal of Cancer, Volume 159, Issue 7, Page 1669-1685, 1 October 2026.
Bisphosphonates are widely used to treat osteoporosis and to manage bone metastases in patients with breast cancer. Nitrogen‐based bisphosphonates may also broadly reduce cancer risk, but evidence remains inconsistent. This large population‐based data linkage study in women aged > 50 years found that, compared to no use of osteoporosis medicines ...

The 9th Edition of the UICC TNM Classification of Malignant Tumours: Updates and Rationale for Change

open access: yesInternational Journal of Cancer, Volume 159, Issue 7, Page 1588-1601, 1 October 2026.
ABSTRACT The standard for assessing and recording the extent of the tumour, a necessity for most malignancies, is the Tumour Node Metastases (TNM) classification. The Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) TNM committee has defined this since the early 1950s.

Two‐Photon Fluorescence and Second‐Harmonic Generation Microscopy: Principles and Biomedical Applications

open access: yesJournal of Biophotonics, Volume 19, Issue 10, October 2026.
Compared with single‐photon methods, TPM enables deep‐tissue imaging using near‐infrared light, with excitation confined to the focal plane, thereby reducing photodamage. SHG microscopy images noncentrosymmetric biological structures such as collagen and myosin without fluorescent labels, offering direct structural contrast.

Morpho‐Anatomical and HPTLC Investigations of Lysimachia nummularia L. (Primulaceae) Grown in Switzerland

open access: yesMicroscopy Research and Technique, Volume 89, Issue 10, Page 1230-1243, October 2026.
This research provides a complete morphoanatomical description of Lysimachia nummularia, as well as a HPTLC profile. Standard techniques of light and scanning electron microscopies, as well as standard techniques of HPTLC, were used. ABSTRACT Primulaceae are distributed all over the world, encompassing around 2590 species.

Mesothelin as Biomarker and Therapeutic Target for Immunotherapy in Cancer

open access: yesMedComm, Volume 7, Issue 10, October 2026.
Mesothelin overexpression activate important pathways like nuclear factor k‐light‐chain‐enhancer of activated B cells (NF‐κB) and interleukin‐6 (IL‐6). This in turn causes numerous cancers, such as pancreatic and ovarian cancers. MSLN‐targeting immunotherapies, like monoclonal antibodies, have shown efficacy.

Borderline ovarian tumors

The American Journal of Medicine, 1996
Borderline tumor of the ovary (BOT) is an epithelial tumor with a low rate of growth and a low potential to invade or metastasize. This tumor often is associated with a significantly better prognosis than epithelial ovarian cancer. Most tumors are either serous or mucinous in histology and present as early stage lesions. However, stage III lesions with

Borderline ovarian tumors

American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, 1988
Ninety-four patients with borderline ovarian tumors were retrospectively analyzed for clinical features, treatments, and survival characteristics. There were 46 patients with FIGO stage IA cancer, 7 with stage IB, 20 with stage IC, 4 with stage IIB, 5 with stage IIC, 5 with stage IIIA, 3 with stage IIIB, and 4 with stage IIIC tumors.

Borderline Ovarian Tumors

2021
Borderline ovarian tumors (BOTs) are a specific subgroup of ovarian tumors and are characterized by cell proliferation and nuclear atypia without invasion or stromal invasion. They are usually more present in younger people than the invasive ovarian cancer and are diagnosed at an early stage and thus have a better prognosis.
