Moredun Bordetella Medium, an improved selective medium for isolation of Bordetella parapertussis

Journal of Clinical Microbiology, 1996
Bordetella parapertussis, previously thought to be an obligate human respiratory tract pathogen, has been isolated from sheep. Attempts to assess the prevalence of B. parapertussis in conventionally reared sheep by nasal swabbing proved futile with existing selective media because of extensive overgrowth with Mucor spp.

Bordetella pertussis and Bordetella parapertussis

2010
Nasopharyngeal aspirates, nasal swabs or throat swabs may be processed for Bordetella pertussis/parapertussis detection. Sputum, endotracheal tube aspirates, and BAL fluids are also occasionally processed for B. pertussis/parapertussis detection.

Activity of new macrolides againstBordetella pertussis andBordetella parapertussis

European Journal of Clinical Microbiology & Infectious Diseases, 1989
MICs and MBCs of four new macrolides (azithromycin, clarithromycin, dirithromycin and roxithromycin) and two older macrolides (erythromycin and josamycin) for Bordetella pertussis and Bordetella parapertussis were determined. The activity of the new macrolides was as good as that of erythromycin, while josamycin was slightly less active.

Whooping cough due to Bordetella parapertussis: an unresolved problem

Expert Review of Anti-infective Therapy, 2004
Bordetella parapertussis is one of the bacteria that causes whooping cough. However, little attention has been paid to this bacterium because it causes a milder illness than Bordetella pertussis and the rate of detection is low, even though research suggests that pertussis vaccines have limited efficacy against B. parapertussis infection.

Bordetella pertussis, Bordetella parapertussis, Mycoplasma pneumoniae, Chlamydia pneumoniae and Persistent Cough in Children

Scandinavian Journal of Infectious Diseases, 1999
Material collected during a prospective pertussis vaccine trial in 1992-95 was examined for Bordetella pertussis (culture and serology), Bordetella parapertussis (culture), Mycoplasma pneumoniae and Chlamydia pneumoniae (PCR). From 64% (99/155) of episodes with cough for less than 100 d, 115 aetiological agents were identified in one southern and one ...

Transient reemergence of Bordetella parapertussis in France in 2022

Journal of Medical Microbiology
Between March and October 2022, a peak of detection of Bordetella parapertussis by qPCR, real-time PCR was observed in France. Hypothesis/Gap Statement. Whether this peak was due to resurgence from previous circulating lineages or reintroduction into the country was unknown. Objective.

Susceptibility of Bordetella pertussis and Bordetella parapertussis to 24 antibiotics.

Chemotherapy, 1987
The susceptibility of Bordetella pertussis (28 strains) and Bordetella parapertussis (6 strains) to 24 antibiotics (penicillin and cephalosporin derivatives, erythromycin, josamycin, cotrimoxazole, imipenem, aztreonam and fosfomycin) was studied by means of the agar dilution method using charcoal horse blood agar.
